Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Math - how much does it cost to lay off ONE employee?

I am thinking about that $600M number. How much does it cost to lay off ONE employee?

Is it close to $100K (in that case we are looking at 6K layoffs)?

@1uny is correct - it's more complicated than just deviding the number with the number of resources - however, if someone tells you that $1.5 billion is allocated for restructuring you can rest assured that 10K people will be laid off (look at Meta).

This number is relevant to California and High-Tech, things may be different in different industries and geographies.

The restructuring cost isn't all people - it's a combination of people, and real estate and if you read the information, it's some in Q2, some in the 2nd half of FY23, and some in Q1 of FY24 so that number isn't all people. Not defending them, just asking you to read the information provided.

My math comes out to roughly the same as yours. They are messaging 5% of the employees to be laid off and that’s roughly between 4,000-6,000 people. Only 3,000 total job req’s are currently open. And of course not all of the req’s will match with people skills…..
