Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

This has really crossed the line

Not that I consider myself a big workaholic, but yes, I love my job and I work hard. However, lately there has been more and more work and I am becoming desperate because the pace imposed is literally impossible for a human being to follow. However, BofA obviously does not seem to consider us to be human beings at all. I feel totally burned out. I've never been so tired.

My manager def doesn’t give a care, they are over 2 teams on 2 different lines of business (guessing dept head wanted to save money) and hasn’t really bothered to learn what one of them entails in the year or so they’ve been in the role, anytime a question comes up have to explain why it’s an issue

+1 Meets/Meets (after all, it's not like you get paid any more for E/E, so why bother)

The last two responses are the rubes that will be taking over your work for you. Your manager doesn't care about you, just that the work is getting done. Start messing up, you'll BE AMAZED that when someone quits or they need to move some things around....you won't be the rube they'll ask to pick up the slack! Let the rubes try for exceeds/exceeds. Meets/Meets pays the bills just fine.

We're all adults here so let's not purposely make mistakes and act like children. You may not care of it impacts your employer and any bad Associates, but it impacts the good people as well. Also, with your already solid work ethic, you will regret it later. Talk to your Manager that you are overwhelmed. I say this as I am in the same exact situation as you most of my days. Last week was an 80+ hour week for me personally. Learn to say no. Best wishes on getting your work/life balance back.

  • one more thing. Please try not to use the word "LOVE" towards anything inanimate or cannot reciprocate that feeling. I know we can split hairs and look at the people we work and get emotionally attached to processes but you are setting yourself for disappointment. We may like a lot of things but love is for our friends, family and special people in our life...maybe the dog can love you back but the cat is kinda shady and uses you for food. I know it's just a figure of speech, but try not to love your work, just like it, in case you get disappointed later on and you have to part ways.

Any employee that has an ounce of integrity and takes pride in their work will not make mistakes intentionally. Please don't follow substandard advice. Some of these people are low hanging fruits begging for a pink slip.👿
First, talk to your boss and see where things are going, see what changed strategically, and maybe you can get some help to lighten the load. Automate processes, consolidate work, get direct access to data sources and databases for your reports, cut back on downtime due to downstream dependencies. See if the output of your work can be used by multiple clients (customization is a pain). Are the reports still used or do they have any actionable value or you are just doing busy work? Update processes and demand high quality work from your colleagues (otherwise you have to spend a lot of time to fix their problems). Use SharePoint and collaboration from all team members to get work done, get them involved and be personally responsible. Keep people in the loop, clearly define what you want and explain how important the tight deadlines are. Keep things moving and delegate. Make sure you have an alternate source to get your information. See if you can get a promotion out of this if you could manage the whole thing, as a personal satisfaction for yourself. If things are not getting done, escalate, communicate clearly what you want and CC the right people. Be proactive, manage people's expectation but deliver on time. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Yeah, that's right, some people might not like you but you'll get things done.

This last year has been rough, esp as we enter the pandemic burn out. Just know most everyone is feeling this way, in and out of the banking industry. Have you raised your hand to say your overwhelmed?

Right there with you (unfortunately) and feel your pain. Today my hands were literally shaking as I tried to answer all the emails and requests being thrown at me.

@1uwi+1aFu2kba gives good advice.

I've decided to make intentional mistakes and take a day (or two) to even respond.

Against my nature, but I have to for my sanity.

start making mistakes in your work, your boss will start taking it away from you and give it to some other rube. You can kick back and watch CNN all day...just pretend to look busy.

I can feel the E-recognition card (worth nothing) heading your way. "Thanks for your hard work but it has been a tough year!"
