I think it was Chevron CEO, Ken Derr or his predecessor who had a weird fetish with commodes. He likened them to Royal thrones, dungeon paraphernalia or something like that. The kinkier and more bizarre the better. The golden toilet studded in gems was set upon a small alter-like platform in the CEO’s private bathroom inside the large top floor office. Gossip has it, the commode held a mystic power that enabled the user to eventually see or foretell future events. There’s some strange stories in Chevron’s long history. This certainly is one of them.

San Ramone was a huge step down from Market Street in San Francisco. Now, giving up our campus and paying rent to dreadful landlords in a drab suburban complex. It is another nail in the coffin as we follow our industry into irrelevance and eventual disappearance.

@1vkb, I try to keep track of where that gold plated and gem encrusted toilet is located. Rest assured I’ll comment about it when I get a confirmation of its current location. The commode has an incredible history going back a long time. There was a large solid brass alloy lavatory sink that graced the executive bathroom at Chevron’s old Market Street HQ in San Francisco, along with this gold plated toilet. I lost track of the whereabouts of the brass sink, but the commode always followed the Chevron HQ and is/was an exclusive perk only for the CEO. There’s a secret meaning behind the reason for commissioning that toilet that only a few people know and is of much speculation by those who know of its existence.
