Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Is anyone here trying to keep their job?

Whomever I talk to they say they can’t wait to get laid off and everyone tells me to give a minimum of myself because when it comes to layoffs, it’s one big mess without any logic.
I would like to give only the bare minimum, because I know that those who have subordinated their whole lives to Chevron have also been axed, but again I somehow instinctively try to work as much as possible because layoff would hit me really hard in every way.

Energy Sec is just parroting what Wirth has been saying for months. Texan has one of the most diverse energy supplies, by the by, owing to all that wind installed by oil guys!

No, I’ve never really “tried” to keep my job, yet I have 30 years with Chevron and am still working here today. I just show up on time each day, do only my job, don’t ruffle feathers, and go home on time. Simply key to success in this company.

It’s not a real question. It’s just stupid click bait.

I do everything required to achieve strong performance in my role and deliver upon the goals and expectations set by leadership. Then I try to do extra to out perform most of my peers. Why? Because despite ALL the challenges and issues; Chevron is still a GREAT company to work for. A company that provides generous compensation packages, valuable benefits and consideration when personal concerns arise like family or health issues. If you work for Chevron and you are not thankful for all that the company provides, well IMO you must have extreme expectations. 90% of my friends and family could only dream of being so well paid and having the kind of benefits we enjoy.

Is our corporation the absolute best place to work? No. But do they provide a great deal for their employees? Yes. I appreciate all that I am offered & receive. I plan to remain at the company and you can bet your A$$ I won't be laid off anytime soon; why? Because I strive to actually earn my pay and achieve the objectives of my role. I do so with a good attitude and earnest appreciation for just how good we have it here at Chevron. Many of us within the ranks have been employees with other worked for smaller Operators, or companies outside of O&G, worked in other non-industrial segments of the economy entirely and even experienced the challenges of self-employment (the joys of the small business owner). If you find greener pastures you are free to leave, its not an issue but you may discover some grass is brown and other fields are mostly rocks and dirt.

Life is good at Chevron for those who perform and conform. Yes, conformity to some degree is a condition of employment. Push back is tolerated to varying degrees but most people eventually learn to go with the flow. If that is not your thing? Move on and best of luck to you and yours.

What kind of silly question is this? If you wanted to lose your job then why not EOI and walk with a decent severance check and enhanced COBRA?

Good for you. Live your life without any integrity or sense of diligence since you are satisfied with following the lead of a staff of incompetent losers simply out of spite. If it makes no difference to you, I'll do just the opposite because I have a shred of dignity left and choose not to follow the lead of pathetic losers, but that's just me.

I’ll do my job with diligence and integrity as soon as management does the same thing first. Lead by example and I will follow suit. Until then, I’ll only perform to the lowest acceptable output. Just enough to stay hired.

@1vuq, Indeed. And most of all, recognize that you are doing it not only for others, but mostly for yourself. Unless, of course. you like to go home at the end of a workday or workweek and when you are popping open a cold one, after a long hard week and say or think "wow, I really put in a good hard week screwing around and ripping off the company that hired me!" Well, maybe that's your sort of thing, but speak for yourself and only yourself. I work hard, and play hard, and get great rewards. Feel free to be a F%&$-off with your life. Life is pretty short, if you didn't know. Make use of it. If you don't like your job, quit and find one where you can be a man and not a wuss.

You are right @1eqa, you should have not have tried so hard or to impress anyone. Chevron does not reward the extra effort. They only expect you check the boxes and do the work you were hired for, not more. You spun your wheels in the mud, nothing more. Now you have realized that they let you go because they’re done with you. Depending on your point of view, it’s their loss or yours.

If you want to get laid off and are not motivated to do your best, it’s time to take a good hard look at what you’re doing and what you want to be doing with your time.
Life is too short to do work you hate just for the money. It might be time for a career change!

I work for a living. I don't live on freebies or handouts. I contribute my share to society and and am compensated well. I am proud of my success. You do you.

Does anyone here really give a ratz a$$? All you really have to do is stay in your lane and go with the flow. Do not make waves and do not rise up. You will be fine.

I worked as much as possible, not skipping a beat, even with the remote working from home. I still got laid off. I should have worked less and enjoyed more naps. Don’t think working harder and more will get you anywhere!
