Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Yall need help

I’m in my late 20s so I assume I’m younger than a lot of you here and I’m also assuming a lot of y'all are probably my parents’ age or even older. Reading some of your hateful words on here Im honestly embarrassed for your kids. I can’t imagine if I saw or heard my mom or dad talk the way you do about human beings and all for what ? DEI? What’s the obsession like give it a rest. Why are you so threatened by who somebody beds down with? How does that affect you in any way? Worried they’ll take your job? Maybe stop being such dinosaurs. Stop coasting just because you think you’ve made it in life because you made it to a JG 3 or above. No wonder a lot of yall are being wiped out of your careers and companies don’t want to hire you and pay you for what you think you’re worth. So entitled. If you hate shells DEI policies so much then leave oh wait you can’t because you banked your whole career on ONE company. The new generations laugh at yall and trust me yes we are taking your jobs and yes we are also making more than you are. Nothing but disgusting sad old people you should be ashamed of yourselves. I’m disgusted to know I walk the halls with you. Grow some ba--s you want to act tough why post anonymously say it with your chest let us know your alias ID, post it on teams, LinkedIn etc or even better I’ll set up a gtky and we can have a f2f chat about how you really feel. We can even grab lunch and you can cry about how you’re all being wiped out by hispanics blacks Asians females g-ys and whoever else you wanna blame for your dead careers.

@1w4 We made no such slurs. We did however demean quasi-ret ards and semi-literates, who then became irate and definitively put us in our place by downvoting our posts. Double OUCH! That hurt way more than being called disgusting, old people. I do like being called dinos though. I wonder if employees at Sinclair compliment one another by calling each other "dinos". Maybe I should go work there and let Shell go extinct.

@1vz Duh, they are proving that she's in her late 20s, that most others here are her parents' age or older, that she's embarrassed for our kids, that she can't imagine her parents talking this way about other human beings, that we'all feel threatened by who sleeps with whom, that we're coasting dinosaurs (or "dinos," as the cool kids say) at JG3 or above and so we've made it but also that our careers are being wiped out, that we should leave if we hate Shell's illegal HR policies that target us for termination, that we're disgusting old people and she's disgusted to know that she walks the halls with us, that we need to grow te------s, that we act tough by posting anonymously, and she dares us to spend more time in her lovely, gracious, and empathetic presence. Oh, yeah, she also accuses us of making explicit racist, s-xist and homophobic slurs.

Got it? It's all there in black and white.

Apu was a very competent patriot proudly living the American dream.

Then the wokies acted like he was some kind of awful stereotype just because he ran a gas station. You can tell that they never actually watched the show or have no media literacy.

And so they successfully got rid of him. Wokies don’t do anything but seek changes strictly so they can feel better about theirselves.

@w7 I think Apu from the Simpson’s surely could both drive taxis and perform surgeries.

Speaking about a directly analogous issue that exemplifies DE&I
It is tragically unfair, inequitable, and unconscionable that taxicab drivers cannot perform surgery while surgeons can drive taxicabs or their own vehicles! We as a society should not tolerate that injustice! If cab drivers weren't systematically oppressed and if they were given opportunity, many of them would be great surgeons. Can't we all agree that the right DEI thing to do is to open up operating rooms to taxicab drivers and select some to perform surgeries and learn by doing surgery? Because of the past systematic oppression, it would be unfair to ask the taxicab drivers to demonstrate proficiency or wait with several years of training to be ready, instead we should just promote them to surgeons today. And we should set goals to have equal representation of taxicab drivers doing surgery to trained surgeons who drive cars. That'd be diversity equity and inclusion! Its really a disgusting prejudice and bias against a marginalized group that is systematically oppressed by rules and regulations if you disagree. Your systematic racism, s-xism, homophobia, and xenophobia are your shortcoming if you disagree. I am so enlightened and there is an inherent short coming with you if you disagree.

OP, here, understands the implications of job loss on the employees, apparently older white men, although she doesn't refer to them. But she expressly doesn't care. Can't pay your bills? Too bad. Can't pay for college? You deserve it. Can't ever retire? Go lie in the corner and die. OP understands economic incentives as drivers of behavior, but since her incentives are the opposite of mine because we can't both occupy the same space, she doesn't care. She wants what I have, and have no doubt, "equity" as a goal goes well beyond just my job and includes everything I have, I have worked for my whole life, what I've done for my children and my parents did for me. What would my parents say? What would my children say? Be a man! Stand up for yourself! This is unbelievable bullsh-t! Quiet and polite gets you nowhere and nothing. Whether or not I deserve to have a career with one company, that it IS THE BARGAIN Shell made with me when I started and for the majority of my career. Stay and perform in this company and you get the promises they've been dangling in front of you. What's changed, here and across corporate America and the EU, is an angry, radical mindset of identity politics, fueled by outsiders trying to hawk their investments and insiders jockeying for power and and position. The identity factors have been expressly introduced by the other side but apparently CBR can say it out loud and put it on our goals but we have to pretend like he didn't. Quiet and polite and a stiff upper lip gets you nothing. Expressing anger over outrageous and offensive behavior by the company is a reasonable response. OP lacks the empathy to understand thus because her incentives drive her behavior. She's upset by my behavior, by addressing the identity factors elephant in the room, but shame on me for being upset and expressing myself in a forum where retaliation is less likely. OP is so blindly self unaware, she has to be a troll. Or really Just Gen Z raised with a twisted, entitled world view.

@OP Try using punctuation. Truly, while there is some discussion of DEI on this board, that's not the most common thing by a long shot. In fact, it's rather uncommon. Those who have followed more than year know this.

@c0 Start with a dictionary. Written means in writing. Verbal means using words, rather than pictures or symbols. Skills here refers to whether your use of the written word is at the level of, say, someone functioning as a late-20's professional (I'm using that term very loosely) articulating a position to an audience of other educated adults in a professional setting of varying ages (specifically leaning older) or, as in this case, a 12 year old whose ignorance on her points is obscured by the words and the construction of sentences and paragraphs. I'm not talking about formal grammar and usage. The communication could be very effective even if informal.

If the problems here are not already apparent, it will take too much time to break down. Seriously, the post sounds like somebody with a 5th grade education, taught sensitivity over skills, and hired based on identity-heavy factors. I'm not surprised that a person functioning at this skill level can't see the impact DEI has on the organization or grasp the serious legal implications. To her, it's a fish and water thing.

If my choice of words similarly fell short, I'm sorry, but the problem might be the audience. I just can't write that d-mb sounding.

She’ll does not value your technical skill or hard work. They only care about short YouTube videos with a happy young early career female…the less you care the healthier you get…try it…let the DEI deal with their own mistakes and incidents…not your job to fix or prevent…when cold like that the universe improves immensely…and if anything does go wrong it’s your fault…expecting a tier 1 next week

My main gripe with Shell’s DEI policy is it seems they like to place not as qualified people in positions over people who are overly qualified. When a recent plant was shutdown my exact role was available for placement at another site. I was not placed in that role, yet a DEI individual was placed in that role to meet the metrics. They had no real experience in that role. That showed me that Shell does not value technical expertise and the company thinks anyone can do any job. That may have been the Shell of old, but recently Shell does not hire the best.

Sweet child, I genuinely hope your post was cathartic and you feel better. Please stop saying "yall". It makes you sound re--rded. Also, you have weak written verbal skills, and you should work on those. I could provide more specificity, but your high handed rant starts me giggling, making it difficult to get through, and it would just take too much time. Also, I don't want to add credibility to your non-sense. You get a C+ for effort though. Keep up the good work, improve yourself, and someday you could function in a real meritocracy somewhere, or go head-to-head with a top tier competitor.

@OP "I agree that the anonymous hate on here needs to stop. It's incredibly demoralizing to see colleagues attack human beings over identity. Everyone deserves to feel respected at work so long as they have achieved their position by demonstrating their skills and abilities.
While the anger in this post is completely understandable given what's been written lately, I hope we can move past the generation-versus-generation attacks. The real issue isn't age; it's the lack of basic respect and empathy from specific individuals.
Let's hold people accountable to human values and keep pushing for a workplace where merit and inclusion go hand-in-hand."

First of all, I doubt that you understand DEI because you seem to think we care who anyone is sleeping with.

Second, the anti DEI crowd has examples. Did you know about lawsuit happening right now involving bosses at woodcreek sensing employees, according to their own words, “white male tear jars”? Is this ok with you? Are court documents now evidence for you?

Third, you would simply take any personally identifiable information and report them far and wide with every outlet at your disposal to get them fired and feel really good about it. You will never actually fight or meet anyone. Nobody is falling for it. You’re either so bony that you’re like to blow away in the wind or so fat that you wobble your way around. There is no other shape of DEI advocate. You’re just upset that there is a place where people can talk about their problems that you can’t police. Take a step back and think how crazy it is to invade that space, challenge everyone to a fight, and tell them their problems aren’t real. Your type doesn’t care about anything, it’s all about feeling better about yourself with as little effort as possible. Nobody. Is. Fooled. Nobody.

You seem to have purposefully missed the hypocritical point of DEI. They are replacing overqualified people with less qualified people in the name of DEI. It'd make sense if the replacements could at least do the job as well; but, that's just not the case.

It isn't that we're against folks who are different, we really don't care or even want to know what makes their naughty bits ready for use. We don't care about their religion, their race, or s-x. We just wish they were competent.

The irony and hypocrisy of DEI is that it isn't merit but it is about being part of the favored race, religion, or s-x.

Do you really think that there has even been a bias against anyone who isn't a traditional white male Christian in the past 30 years? Saying that there was is just a cope for lack of merit.
