Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Like the walking dead

I've been at nike for the better part of two decades. And I've actually loved 95% of it. I've had great managers, worked with mostly cool and talented people, and enjoyed getting to connect to sport through my work. I've always felt supported to have good work life balance and take care of myself and my family. I've been through many rounds of layoffs and some pretty poorly informed reorgs.

And in all that time I have never experienced morale like what we are feeling right now. If the goal was to completely halt all productivity and sink the last shred of positivity, they really nailed it with the 1 2 punch combo of announcing layoffs, starting the 4-1 and then letting everyone marinate in the uncertainty and fear of losing their jobs for two solid months. And I don't see this getting better. No wonder they postponed the employee engagement survey, why survey what is clearly written on everyone's faces?

Campus is like the walking dead.

It's just sad honestly.

@1wag+1r4te1nh. I agree with your assessment. Ten years ago things were still pretty good. I’d say around 8 years ago things started to go south and now a lot of the senior leadership is comprised of the incompetent schmoozers at the expense of competent old-timers that were let go or forced out

Completely agree with the OP. I came in 10 years ago, and caught the tail end of “the good old times”. No company is perfect, and you’ll have a few bad apples anywhere you go, but the company had soul and progress was built on innovation, product and taking bold stands in marketing. In my 10 years I have seen that culture slip away to make room for decision making entirely driven by finances and risk mitigation. This accelerated once JD showed up. Nike isn’t going away, but the soul of the company is withering fast. Once PK is no longer around Nike will be just another big, soulless, enterprise behemoth, steadily paying dividends, but no longer an exciting growth company

My old boss at another company said the purpose of engagement surveys was to make you feel good. It had no bearing on how the company was run. She said put whatever you want on it.

I 100% agree with the OP here. I don't understand what or why all of this is happening. I've never seen this before at Nike. NEVER. All of it is sad, disheartening and depressing. Random, but I made a list tonight on those I should forgive, those I should ask forgiveness from and those to pray for; EVERYONE is on the latter. Whatever it takes for any of you to move forward, positively, do it.

The survey of 2022 had a question if Nike SLT was following Nike maxims. If I recall correctly 35% respondents voted Strongly Disagree and it was in a screenshot shared by JD in the all team meeting he conducted following the survey. LT didn't pay any attention to it. What else did you expect from this LT?

I haven’t filled that thing out in years. I don’t believe for a solitary second that it’s anonymous, nor would they do anything with feedback even if it was

Why shouldn't they do away with it? Its meaningless if not to act on. When was the last time we saw anyone responsible for these outcomes actually ACT on ANY of this feedback at all?

These clowns are drowning in the fu--s they haven't given.

Did they postpone the survey? It normally goes out in March IIRC.
