Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I think about leaving every day

I have been thinking about leaving Wells Fargo for more than a year. I'm at the point where I think about it every single day. I'm obsessed with it, but I can't do anything about it because I can't afford a pay cut and those are the only offers I've been getting. To say I'm unhappy would be an understatement. I think that most of the people who claim they left for 30/40 percent higher pay either got extremely lucky or are lying. Most likely the latter.

For those who asked I'm 52 and the best offer I got was 20 percent under what I get now. My family situation is such that I can't entertain it.

I'm in the same boat but that seemingly inevitable layoff seems less inevitable of late. I'm getting the feeling that between the high attrition rates and all the RTO stuff, it's time to collect that bonus and retire. Either way, I won't be around much longer.

Me too, OP. I'm about 60 years old and have no desire to "job search".

I'm just sticking around for the paycheck and am waiting for the layoff that seems so inevitable for people my age. When that happens, I'm done. Retired. To he11 with it. The sooner, the better.

Previous posters are right. It's not fun here anymore. I also don't like to admit that I work for WF. For everyone who admits that, there are hundreds who feel the same but are not saying anything.

Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forward again to a more promising future. Happened to me. Now I am at a job twice my former salary.
First there was the extreme pay cut. Got into banking. Got lots of raises. Held lots of different banking jobs gaining more experience with each one. Now at the top of my career. It can work out for the best, leaving a job that makes you miserable on a daily basis.

I felt the same way. I hated the place and the people I worked with. It was a blessing to be displaced (after raising my hand). I took my severance and separation pay, recovered physically and mentally and landed a better job even though I'm an older worker. Better pay, benefits and culture. AND, I work remotely and don't have to deal with the commute.

It's an employees market right now. Start looking!

Golden handcuffs are real, but there are always ways to cut expenses. Get rid of one car, eat at home, tell your kids they need to go to a community college for the first two years … of course it’s never easy, but neither is waking up every morning to a job you hate.

What % of pay cut are you talking about? I ended up leaving due to the exact reason you mentioned, did take a 10% cut to work for a smaller financial institution that is full time WFH but it’s growing and has a lot of upsides which will help me move back up in terms of earning potential after couple of years.

Money isn’t everything, you got to look into what the next company can offer you as a whole.

Actually tech is because they let anyone with any system knowledge go, so now are completely understaffed with people that have no business sense about the applications they support.

“ I think that most of the people who claim they left for 30/40 percent higher pay either got extremely lucky or are lying. Most likely the latter.”

Are you saying people on an anonymous website are posting false statements? I’m completely shocked!

Does anyone else die a little bit inside when someone asks you what company you work for? I usually just say "I work for one of the large national banks. I'm unable to say specifically due to NDA." I can't quite bring myself to say Wells Fargo anymore. I am tired of the follow up questions about scandals.

OP-what age range are you? If you are over 50, your comments would make sense.

Me too! I'm at an age where finding a new job ain't as easy as it once was. Sucks when your choices are staying miserable in a job you hate or winding up broke and unemployed.
I miss the days when I was actually proud to work here... these days I'm mostly just embarrassed

But.🙄. Just do it! No excuses or else you'll be here for another 20 years.
