Biden vaccine mandate issued for private employers: Jan. 4 deadline for workers to get shots

The Biden administration published a rule Thursday that requires workers at large companies and institutions to get fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by Jan. 4 or face weekly testing.

Persons who refuse to get vaccinated would also have to wear masks while on the job under the long-awaited regulation from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration that applies to 84 million workers.

Employers must start providing paid time off to employees who want to get vaccinated and recover from any side effects by Dec. 5. Unvaccinated workers should also start wearing masks by that date, the rule says.

yawn ok dude. The truth of the matter is that I don't need a job at all, so I really don't care what happens to the job market in my area. If people left to go to the nearest mega city, it'd be great news and I'd probably buy some more now-cheap land. Your attempts to scare people with the "everyone is going to leave!" theory couldn't backfire more than it has. I hope that they DO.

From Wells' About Us page. Two can play that game.

As the rest of our mega cities expand outward - buying up the ghost towns or swallowing them in a metropolitan embrace - I hope that some day you can move on from your state of denial. The rural damage that the automation and AI will do to farming and trucking alone may be the final nail for lots of small rural towns. But I highly recommend investing in it - it pays off pretty well.

Says the guy living in the paved-over hellscape. The country is a big place. There's plenty of room for both industry and wilderness out here. Just because your yard is 1/5 acre doesn't mean that the rest of the world is so crowded.

Like I said before, I'm ecstatic that you love the urban life. Stay. Forever.

Since this move to hubs, there's been a growing anti-rural sentiment on here, which is super unfortunate. Many long-term high performing team members live in these rural areas and will have to either move or find new jobs, and being rural areas they often won't find equivalent work or compensation. It's very unfortunate, and it's sad to see other team members respond to their predicament with such glee.

Can we start saying that Wells is no longer a community bank?

Oh you mean those mined resource lands that are being sold off to other countries? The farmland that's being sold off? Foreign ownership of farmland doubled in 2009 to 2019. Or are you talking about the ones that are fading away like coal/gas? Yep, that will make for some ripe turbine land or solar farm.

There will still be people that visit the parks, reserves, or take vacations or hunting trips and 'rough it' in the boonies. Many do now and many of those areas will continue to survive on low wage tourism type jobs and elderly care. But there will also be a criminal element that comes to prey on those who choose to remain in some of those areas.

No way dude, paying $2k+ a month for a tiny decades-old house in a dump of a neighborhood is awesome. So is spending 2 hours a day commuting, and $300/month for the privilege of parking at work. I mean really, who wouldn't want to do that?

That's pretty funny. I take it you don't eat, use petro chems, lumber, metals or other mined resources, etc.

We'll be just fine. "Wasteland" was quite the eye roller, good for a laugh. You can keep your paved over / polluted urban jungle. I'll continue to enjoy the mountains, rolling hills, forests, and rivers that don't have grocery carts and needles laying in them. Enjoy the next mugging, riot, car ja--ing etc. and have a nice day. I'm very glad you like your city, it means you'll stay there.

The question is - how much of it will be kept up and repaired when there issues, in an area with shrinking return. Add to that - electrical, water treatment, roads, delivery of goods and other infrastructure.

You are looking out for your career and future - everyone is. But these are trends that are running throughout workplaces as a whole. This is not something that is local to only our company. This is just the start of it. AI and automation will be a sheer tidal wave in the effects it will have on small and rural towns - not counting suburbs of major metro areas. Not even farmers are safe. Once they start to fold under - many of those small towns will shrink faster than they ever have before.

All of this has been trending in this direction for over a decade or longer. These decisions are made and when other companies see the windfall it brings their executives - more companies follow suit. Sure there will be exceptions that try to hold out and dig in their heels. There will be others that 'invest in small town USA' but it won't be genuine and it won't last. It will be for interim cost savings and for low level workers to feed an AI that will do their job for them in a few years. But it will give those companies some publicity and make it look like they care.

Change has progressed in both speed and frequency as we switch to an automated world. In order to remain relevant, you must be willing to move at the same speed. If you aren't willing to handle near constant change, be prepared to face the consequences for being an anchor instead of a propeller.

If you are nowhere near a hub, that's on you. They will use you until they don't need to. Then it will be swift. In the meantime they will try to get as many red flags in your personnel file as they can - so they can let you go without paying severance. Or they hope you will see the writing on the wall and leave before it gets to that point.

It's not just our company doing this. Lots of companies are centralizing into bigger cities and leaving small towns and rural towns in the dust. It used to be that companies would put call centers in smaller rural or remote towns because the land was cheap and paying even 50 cents more than the local minimum wage brought them enough to cover churn. But younger folks and tech savvy people are flocking to cities instead of remote areas, even after COVID. Younger people are the lifeblood for any city - if the number of people under 35 is higher for those leaving than coming in - it's not worth investing in from a corporation standpoint.

I'm remote and nowhere close to a driveable hub. They closed my local campus during COVID, so now I'm sitting out here orphaned, with continued remote work ok "for now." Fine, but it's not like my situation is going to change. Either pi-s or get off the p-t -- decisions for folks like in my shoes shouldn't take another two fu----g years.

Allow me to explain this again. If you were working from home, you had a telecommute agreement, regardless of if you know it or not. When RTO was announced those were voided. Unless you're being told by the highest level in your LOB that you are free to continue working remotely indefinitely - which I know is not happening - you won't be working remotely for long. You'll be asked to report to a hub location or your job will be offered to someone who can work in a hub location - regardless of whatever you hope will happen.

There will be a number of branch and building closings in the next 18 months. The big push is into the digital area and 'stores' are a thing of the past. Centralization is being pushed as the primary collaboration tool - but also used as a way to measure time. Consolidation is happening - and it does not care about your feelings. The people at the top want to be sure you are as productive as you can be every minute of every day.

I don’t know why so many are pushing this false narrative. Just because you are no longer allowed to work remote, does not mean that applies for everyone. Our entire group is remote and will be for the “foreseeable” future. Whether that’s 12 months or 3 years or permanent, no one will tell you if they know, but good to go for now. And WFH wasn’t cancelled. “Telecommute agreements” were cancelled. We have never used them so there was literally no impact.

They set up vaers to fail (by design) to aid in deniability of side effects. So for many people refusing to vaccinate there is no way to make an informed decision based on facts rather than assurance from cdc/fda over vaccine safety. FDA has a long history of approving unsafe dr-gs. Vaccine manufacturers can’t be sued for damages and it’s been proven impossible to even prove that health damage occurred as a result of vaccinating. Big pharma has so much money to pay for lawyers that no individual can win against them.

Follow up and reporting of adverse events should be necessary and part of the protocol.

I wish we all had to line up outside of the office each day (fully returned to office) and get jabbed up with a daily covid vaccine to ensure that nobody ever gets sick. The happy hums of our very safe employees would practically be heard down the hall (even through the muffle of our mandatory masks).

We can only dream.

I’m not used to being told no. I’m under no obligation to anyone to follow health department directives during this pandemic, and am entitled to access property owned by Wells Fargo, regardless of the danger to other people there. If they fire me, I’ll file a lawsuit and push my Juice Plus+ and Scentsy businesses more aggressively on Facebook to make ends meet.

Like it or not, private companies can be held responsible for the content they host, so they're going to look out for their own interests if, for example, some group uses its technology to, say, organize a coup.
