Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

The Telltale

Check you Profile in Slack. If your email has a number code attached to it you are on the list. Unclear how much of a heads up that gives you. Might be day, might be an hour? Mine just got it - waiting for the call now. 1708XXX where X-X is your place in line.

1708King shared yesterday - looked like AES 256 Crypt without a key. Was waiting for the Key to pop up somehow, but post got taken down!? Never noticed that happen before? Maybe Nike Lawyers, or maybe just because it looked like gibberisch!? Who Knows.

Even if they are - took 'em like what 6h to take the epoch thing down? And if dude is right, they might not even be able to disable the new loophole even if HR is monitoring - unless he/she is full of sh*te.

@1xiv you must be new here. Nike legal and HR are all over this site even when there ISN’T an active layoff happening. There is definitely someone at Nike monitoring this site nonstop right now.

The Epoch Stamp allowed you to see who got laid off, and also who will get laid off depending on its position in the email. They are hiding that now. There is another way to see who got laid off at scale, and I dont think they would be able to turn this off since it would affect a number of systems with unforeseen consequences. Now looks like this thread has burned itself out and there is a diminished risk of HR catching onto this. Depending on how few views this gets I'll post it on Monday. Again, it wont tell you who WILL get laid off, but only who DID get laid off.

Wow. I guess most people here don't realize that employee information is readable to everyone, and that replacing a portion of the email address with a timestamp after closing an account is common practice.

You didn't discover a loophole. You stumbled on a backward way to read information that is already visible to everyone.

Smart folks in here.

@1xtd+1r6E0q9H Your lawyer against Nike's lawyers and outside counsel, sure, good luck with that. Take the package and move on.

Did anyone happen to save that list of people that were laid off?

I'm approaching retirement age and was laid off. I assume my lawyer would love to have some data to analyze for discrimination.

@1yup, more likely they figured this out by noticing a spike in slack itself, i.e. too many people entering the same queries at the same time. and even if i’m wrong, i still think notifying all peers via this platform and other social media works way faster then texting a couple of friends.

Ok so WE can see OUR emails… Would our emails still be getting that number if we are being let go?

What an embarrassment for such a big company with so many consultants and HR specialists to learn about their loopholes via this website. Just a proof that those working at Nike, some of them, are clueless!!! I am now confident I will leave Nike either by myself or lay off...

I would give my left giblet to have been in the room when the f bo--s started flying and people yelling TAKE IT DOWN TAKE IT DOWN. :) Classic. Bummed they caught on to us but it was just a matter of time before one of them took a peep to see what we are saying about JD.

It's pretty hilarious how a billion dollar company that has been planning this layoff since summer with consulting companies didn't think to check slack. This really shows you how much of a tech company Nike really is. Imagine the person that had justify this last minute restriction change: "Oh, yeah... someone found a loophole that allowed them to see who was canned bc we missed it."

I thought I worked with the smartest people in the world… this is a public website that the company is for sure watching because it’s literally about layoffs. Any “hot tip” to get around the system will be immediately fixed. Maybe take the company’s advice and keep it tight or at the very least keep it very nuanced.

They completely removed the option to see people’s email in slack now. I only can see mine, but if I click in another user no email shows up. It is going to be easy to extract the info another way. Working on it. But to share, we are going to have to think about some other way. Any ideas?

OMG! Yes, just 30 minutes ago when I searched 1708, there were a bunch of deactivated accounts that showed up. Now, nothing! This thread and this site is heavily monitored!

There are about 50 with 17079 and 87 with 17078...

It seems to have stopped at 133 with 1708...

So a total of about 270, but this does not include people leaving voluntarily...

Not sure what it means, though.

  • and there are folks still in phonebook who have been laid off.

Not surprisingly we can’t get a layoff right

The 1708 stamp is temporary so yes, it’s not exhaustive of everyone who got laid off today.

Several VPs who stopped showing up in Nike phonebook don't have this time stamp on their names yet. I don't think the the list of people with 1708 in their email is representative of everyone being laid off today.
