I believe that trust is a fundamental pillar of successful tech development and app maintenance. It is crucial for managers to have unwavering confidence in their team members' abilities to accomplish their tasks effectively. This sense of trust should permeate all levels of the organization, spanning from design to maintenance, and should apply to projects of varying scales, from large initiatives to smaller endeavors.
I have observed a noticeable accelerating shift in the distribution of this "trust" among different groups, such as transitioning from current management to newcomers (JPM), from US workers to international professionals, from older staff members to younger counterparts, and from in-house personnel to external contractors. Consequently, this process has resulted in significant displacement within the bank's workforce, including the unfortunate scenario of layoffs.
Given this situation, it is crucial for us to take a moment to reflect on our next steps. I understand that many of you may have been impacted by layoffs. So, how can we address this situation and navigate our paths forward? Here are some suggestions:
- Seek out employers who value and trust your skills and expertise. It is vital to find a work environment where your abilities are recognized, appreciated, and trusted.
- Continuously invest in learning and expanding your knowledge, particularly in emerging technologies like AI. Familiarizing yourself with AI tools such as Bard and chatGPT can greatly benefit your professional growth, enabling you to stay up-to-date and relevant in the field. In my opinion, these tools can serve as your mentors for future success.
- Embrace a humble attitude and maintain a willingness to ask questions. Cultivate a mindset of continuous learning and actively seek clarification whenever necessary. This approach will not only enhance your own skills but also foster an atmosphere of collaboration and knowledge sharing within your team. It's important to be open to seeking guidance from AI mentors as well.
I invite everyone to contribute additional advice or suggestions that can help us navigate this evolving landscape. Together, we can support one another and adapt to the changing demands of the banking tech industry.
