Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Learn to say no

This advice is primarily for the people who've lost team members to layoffs or attrition recently. When your boss tries to have you do a part or all of their work, push back from the start. If you "help out" once, you'll be expected to help out again and again. Which means your workload will double. Don't expect your pay to follow suit, though. Help yourself by learning to say no.

Aren't they pushing work/life balance?
'Sorry boss, I can't stay late and do the work the laid off person used to do. I'm logging off on time for the life part of my day.'

No is in fact a complete sentence. Logging off is in fact a complete action.

Most everyone on my team is leaving due to Frank's draconian policies. On the one hand, it's sad to lose my team over poor leadership -- but on the other hand, it has given me an insane amount of leverage. I just recently demanded a sizeable raise and I do less now than I ever have. Frank can't do jack about it, either, which makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. The cherry on top is that I'm exempted from Sapience tracking. I literally hosed around on TikTok all day today and then popped open calculator to figure out how much money I made in that time.

Can you just say "maybe" and then not do it. "Oh I didn't have time to get to that..." or would that be a problem for the worker?
