Clearwater mandating unpaid lunch

Despite having no written policy, Honeywell Clearwater HR is threatening that all hourly employees take an unpaid 30 min lunch. Some employees choose to work through this and are now being told to take it ‘or else’.
The only written slow down states that employees are entitled to and states that if lunch is taken, it must be unpaid and no work performed. There is nothing written to enforce the requirement to take one. Typical HR and their bully tactics.

The problem is you all take a lunch but pretend to work while eating your lunch, that my friend is fraud to the government. It would be different if you didn't eat at your desk and really worked, but lets face it, you all take time to eat or you go get your lunch punch back in and eat at your desk. You all want your cake and eat it too.

@23m+1jsq1gphp straight from dol.gov..."Federal law does not require lunch or coffee breaks."

@23b+1jsq1gphp - “ there is no mandate for a lunch [break] for anyone over 18. ” - maybe that was true in the past. take a look at dol.gov.

@e3+1jsq1gphp there is no mandate for a lunch for anyone over 18. Under 18, you get a 30 minute lunch after 4 hours. Employers can voluntarily offer a lunch period for adults but it isn't mandated anywhere that it is required.

Same went into effect more than a decade ago in WA state. Lae said employer must allow, and enforced the law as if it was written must take. Also directed employees to opt for one hour or half hour meal periods - no exceptions. Couldn't return from lunch a minute early. Sorry, if I'm at lunch and not getting paid, I'm also not going to watch the clock for the employer as well. Finding a better employer who trusts us to be adults to do adult work has been a blessing beyond description.

Uh .. I challenge your comment about the law saying hourly people must have a lunch break. Pretty sure it says you get two paid breaks in eight hour shift. Do you have reference to that statute? For SURE the federal law does not provide for a lunch break.

OP I would normally not respond to this misinformation but seeing as there are upvotes for your post I would direct current Clearwater employees to read the Aerospace Timekeeping Policy. While I am not defending this policy it IS written and it not only applies to Honeywell it is the law at least in Florida (maybe US) for mandatory breaks and 30 minute lunch for hourly employees working at least 8 hours a day. Oh yeah applies to veteran hourly employees too - thank you for your service.
