Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Layoff Appeal [Injustice]

The layoff docs included a link to file an appeal -- basically write a statement asking for reconsideration with some specific argument. I did so, had a chat with someone from employee relations who said they'll get back to me. It's been a week. I'm not hopeful but I would feel d-mb to not take every opportunity.

  • Did you know about the appeal process?
  • Did you file an appeal?
  • Have you heard anything back?

Ha…. “Employee Relations” exists to do only one thing. HINT: It has nothing to do with helping you retain your job.

@2apl+1rk3sI1N, brilliant analogy mate... this girl needs to think long term.

Say your successful in this appeal. The factors that got you on the list in the first place aren’t changing. So you’ll be right back in the same situation in the next round of layoffs.

Give more specific information in your statement and justify that your review was not properly.
Compare your accomplishments to others in your group and state, that your manager was biased.

I have seen many good engineers in Cisco getting laid off due to office politics.
A lot of mangers do not have good skills in conducting performance review. They just listen to others who backstab the good engineers to save their own jobs.

There are many managers and directors who don’t deserve to be at their level. I have noticed this at Cisco and other companies.

What a waste of time.

Lets be realistic here. If you are in an At-Will state, there is nothing to appeal. You are let go for no other reason than your pay and work output don't mesh with the business and your business unit is cutting. Simple as that. If for some random reason you are successful, you will be given the worst projects and demands, then they will fire you with no severance for failure to meet goals.

There was a reason for the Peasant's Revolt in the United Kingdom in the Middle Ages. Working people banded together because they had had enough of being treated like garbage.

Why would one want to appeal to any organization that doesn't see their value?

Think this over, the management chain has already gone through their decision process and you were thrown under the bus. With that perception do you really want to work in that team? It gets harder with pay grade, specially 11+. Whatever your reasons for appeal, don’t beg.

“Beg for your job, peon!”

How freaking degrading.

Very curious how this goes. Please report back. Have seen it work, in rare occasions, temporarily at best. But better than feeling d-mb, eh? :). Curious your justification given?
