Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Saint John location.

Has anyone gotten severance laid off from the saint john location? I suspect we'll all be gone soon so I'm wondering what to look forward to. I know alot of Xerox employees were rebranded as HCL (luckily we're still Xerox) and I was wondering if the are doing the rebranding to avoid severance?

I think the poster was indicating that the Canadian laws for employment in this case, because of the sabotage of JV and “family” over severance allotment, allows the difference in settlements between what’s offered in US versus Canada employees to be substantial.
So in the case presently about Xerox the Canadians will fair out better.
Of course this is solely based on the moves JV & Co. derived to our US brethren
BTW the tax rates Canadians pay are admittedly high as that is part of several functions including healthcare - so yeah taxes are high here but we make out pretty well overall in other areas because of it - for the most part but of course we wish we paid less ;)

I was laid off in the US with a 15 day notice. 15 days after the severance policy change. 13 weeks of pay and 25 weeks of medical coverage gone in a blink of an eye. So glad to be away from that s##t show. Make your own destiny.

It wasn't that long ago that US employees were assured a severance payout of 1 week/year of service. Around the time that Carl I. and Johnny V. took over the Xerox Board (mid 2018), they revised the rules to a max 8 or 12 weeks of severance, depending on job classification. Certainly they had begun planning substantial layoffs and wanted to preserve as much cash as possible as folks were being let go. The Canadian severance package is indeed quite lucrative.
However, I disagree with the statement "Canada favors employees" made by 1lsq. My marginal US Fed. tax rate is 22% (earning up to 170K). In Canada, my rate would be 26% (earning up to 150K). The rate disparity between state and provincial could be even more extreme, depending on where one lives.

@-jld interesting info about the lack of phase-out notice. Seems like every country has different rules. Canada gets 2 weeks notice w/ HCL, US has been getting 60-90 days or so. Severance varies by country. US favors employers, Canada favors employees.

Don't accept any severance package without seeking advice from a lawyer... and don't sign anything with a clawback clause in your package. They can't threaten to stop paying you your severance money and if they do it's intimidation and lawyers will eat them up and spit them out!!

Yes can also confirm Canada does get severance and they appear to be following ontario law and are paying about 3 weeks per year of service. It is paid in one lump sum on your final pay. However your benefits would continue for another 60 days from your termination date.

You get your severance info about a week before your termination date.

In canada they also only provide a 2 week notice. They are not doing the 60 day notice like they have in the US.

Yes, those of us who have recently been laid off after being re-badged to HCL have been getting a severance, it seems to be a lump sum payout of about 3 weeks/year of service. Not sure how long that will last though.

Yes they re-brand to avoid severance, at least in the US. Not sure how it works in CAN as you have more employee protection.
