Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Depressing environment

Remember when we used to have fun at work? When we used to chat and crack jokes? What happened since then? I go to work, I barely speak to anybody, and I go home more depressed than when I arrived. I know work's not supposed to be fun, but this is taking it to the other extreme.

But is IS suppose to be fun. I've worked in Design for 10 years, purchased services, and so far, still standing. For the previous 8 year, it was fun. Not anymore.

Just got a whole lot more depressing as comrades are being shown the door as we speak.

Care For Each Other. We are family. A bunch of lies.

@2fck depends on your perspective
When I first started at Ford people drank and smoked at their desks, their inhibitions down there was a lot of mean spirited practical jokes, rough housing and other merriment. Fun for a portion of the team not so much fun for those taking the brunt of the hi-jinks. It was rather like high school.
That all stopped around 2008, then the “fun” was moved “off-campus”, two hour lunch at a local establishment followed an hour later by early departure from work to a local establishment. It only stopped because a new hire complained repeatedly about the smoking at the desks despite corporate policy and HR paid a visit and caught the team red-handed smoking and drinking.

The fun of doing a job well ceased after Mulally left, that was replaced by creating an illusion of accomplishment. Around the same time our area “retired” all the leaders who were respected and had a clue. The replacements brought a culture of fake accomplishments, blaming, shaming and credit stealing. Morale ki---r for sure.

OP must be referring to at least 25 years ago. I’ve been at Ford since the late 1990’s and it’s never been fun.

Pulse scores low enough and we'll indeed see a "Fun Committee."

@1wuh+1gq9mGR1 and don't forget the meetings to plan the fun, and more meetings to have fun while planning more meetings!

When my ENTIRE organization refuses to come into work for anything meaningful it's hard to even enjoy working with them. The company is focusing too heavily on very g-y Raptor and trying to challenge Tesla more than building good vehicles.

The majority of non-Dad jokes are not PC and therefore not okay in a woke work place. Bill and HR have worked hard to sanitize the entire company of any "fun". Fun is not acceptable because often times fun comes at the expense of others.

Except for scarlet-neck jokes. Those are okay. If you want to crack jokes about southern, white men go for it! Everyone else is off limits.

It's depressing because you are being paid 20% less than what you were 5 years ago when taking into account inflation and because your workload increased so much because all the competent coworkers have quit and moved on to better things.

After Ford 2000 the company went out of its way to get away from having a natural way of comradeship. Now when it hits 4pm people just want to go home do not want to socialize after work like they use too. Again, the company did this to themselves. now they try these picnics where you are encouraged to go because your manger paid the bill. Sorry, that is not a way to network or socialize. Glad I am out of there.
