Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Moving from GTS to IBM Cloud

Hi, has anyone tried to move from GTS (newco) to IBM after the NewCo announcement? They say there is a 60 days freeze and all moves have to go via some approval process... I'm thinking if they don't approve, I'll become a sitting duck.

Good post. I too have an opportunity at IBM cloud. I’m currently at GTS. Wondering if anyone has any further info on ringfence and the process to leave GTS.

To all good intentioned people that suggest leaving the sinking ship. You do that if you can swim to shore or jump ship. If you are in high seas with nothing in sight, and the COVID situation has just cleared the seas in my geography, you'll maybe try sinking with the shio.

Has anyone tried to move by NewCo to IBM? What was the process like?

I work on a dedicated IS account in GTS, we've been told by that client they are limiting engaging IBM at all because they are tired of the sales pitches and executive level pressure to include IBM in their public cloud strategy, so they avoid engaging IBM for anything. I don't imagine this is an isolated scenario, so it's possible NewCo will have more business as a result of not having to sell other IBM strategies that companies have already rejected.

The reason IBM is not a serious Hybrid-Cloud player is because their Public Cloud s—s!

The on-premise part is just Kubernetes with some additional features... is it worth having to pay for these additional features... NO!!

@2foa+17Ltfj5Q,
If you think IBM is a serious player in hybrid cloud you are the delusional one.
I would want no part of where IBM is heading, with newco there's a slim chance still.

It’s a toxic culture everyone. Why bother? What I’ve noticed is everyone is looking outside and not working as much. I used to get calls and a ton of emails at night and weekends. Not a single one anymore. No one cares.

Who wants to stay in an ibm without GTS ? IBM cloud is a niche, software is gone, Aix is dead. IBM will be Mainframe, red hat, quantic & IA. Next split will be GBS.

The higher echelons within IBM will cherry-pick anyone with exceptional abilities with perhaps a few brown-nosers slipping across. Otherwise, you've little chance of doing this without friends in high places.

You’re ringfenced. No, you can’t move. Read a Bain or Parthenon white paper about how companies run a spin-off process. Will give you more insight than you will ever get out of IBM.

The likelihood that you will be able to move is close to zero. If I were you I would update my resume and start looking elsewhere.
