a call from a lawyer looking to file for retroactive social security disability on your behalf? What’s the scheme?

When I was diagnosed with cancer while working for Verizon I retired after 27 years. SSDI Advocate called me to setup disabilities benefits on my behalf, it’s apart of Verizon’s policy.

It's kind of ironic now but once upon a time, the two chief predecessor companies prided themselves as good places to work for folks with disabilities. It looks like we are back again to "don't ask, don't tell!" Good luck.
The law firm in PA and offices in NJ chaperoned all of the paperwork. 18 months, two state doctor visits, one initial disapproval/appeal from the initial filing until final approval and a direct deposit of 20 months of SSDI. I could not imagine doing this alone without the assistance and counsel of the law firm even though contact was no more than 5 or 5 conversations and maybe a half dozen emails. It was more than worth their small fee.
I need to go apply myself but I’m not sure if I’d take the help of some random lawyer who called. Stage 4 get auto approved but it take many months before they pay out anything.
How did they get ones SSN in order to determine that you received or are eligible for disability? Also, I hope they get those that abused SSI when a lot of us could have applied but didn't, pushing through it and working full-time.
Social security is in trouble because all those lazy boomers are hanging on till 85 before shuffling off. I'm gen X and plan to wait till 67 before filing, then kick the bucket @ 68 so SS is solvent for all you children. YOU'RE WELCOME!!!!!!
Social Security is in trouble because of all the people receiving SSDI who have never paid into the system. You need to prove that you have a disability to receive the benefits. They just don't give it away to the working class. It's our $$. I've been paying social security taxes since I was sixteen.

Nope. But I contacted one in PA who helped me out tremendously. It is not a scam. SS will pay you SSDI aka SSI from the time that your disability was declared until the present. The law firm takes a fee of about $5 grand from the proceeds and the rest is direct deposited into your account. You also may be placed on Medicare prior to age 65. It is not a scam.
There was a recent breach of the SSAdministration if I’m not mistaken and another national company breach that included SSN detail. FYI
have had a lot of strange numbers calling however I don't answer. When I goggle the numbers they are robo calls. Sounds like a scam. WOW, the damage they could do if they get your SSN. You may want to lock down your credit just in case.
