Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

What’s the difference between client centers and hubs?

Was initially told I was safe from RTO because I’m not client facing and don’t live near a hub. During a meeting with my manager’s manager, it was casually mentioned that there’s not much of a functional difference between hubs and client centers, and the difference was mostly in name only. I was pretty shocked to hear this, as the FAQ states that client centers are for client facing employees, not all remote employees. She said she would check with someone higher up about my RTO office status, which of course she never followed up with me on. I’ve also asked my immediate manager multiple times to follow up on this, yet nothing. Does anyone who lives near a client center, but not a hub, have any info on how remote workers are being dealt with? My hunch is they’ll require me to go in regardless, even though I was hired remote. The secrecy over this and complete disorganization has made me dislike my job even more than I already did.

Work life balance isn’t even on her list of things to worry about. With her it’s more like do the job we order you yo do or we will move your job to India and not blink an eye.

5 days a week makes zero sense but to be fair, neither does 3 days a week considering the one day overlap minimum. I think a different post has already made the suggestion that making environments miserable to force attrition and avoid severance pay seems like the reasoning that makes the most sense. Even that has issues because is the money saved avoiding severance greater that what's spent on building maintenance and equipment? I guess if you consider things to be investments and people to be profit losses.

Maybe they have further layoffs planned and hope to reduce headcount to where there will be enough space for 5 day RTO? I wouldn't be surprised, they are out of control.

Hub locations require all roles to be onsite. Client Service Centers will be very specific roles and will have many still home based. Expect much smaller office footprint in client centers vs hubs.

"It was also mentioned to begin prepping our employees for a full time (5 days) RTO."

This makes zero sense. If it were true, they wouldn't be doing hotel seating. There's not enough space for everyone to be in the office 5 days per week.

Ah yes…feeling miffed about RTO when I was hired as a strictly remote employee well before Covid is certainly out of line. Not to mention I don’t even work in the same state as the rest of my team, so I’d be commuting to a random office to “collaborate” with coworkers via Teams just as I do now. Ge-z, about time people actually advocate for themselves.

All the pouting about RTO is pathetic. Before I was laid off from the bank I had to be in office five days per week. Now I’m unemployed hoping to replace my income and people think they have it bad not being able to continue working from home. Sorry for the rant but be thankful for what you have.

Interesting. I wonder if this info has been disseminated to lower-level managers yet? My direct boss seems to have no knowledge of this - he’s under the same impression I was regarding the distinction between hubs/client centers.

So Gunjan is about no work life balance? Anyone made a voodoo doll of her already or should I start one?

I have employees located in various states throughout the company. Senior Management advised us Operation Managers of the following. HUB/Client Center no difference in RTO. If you are in the area and there is availability in the building, you will return to office. 30 mile radius is a suggestion not a firm rule. There are numerous employees 50 miles from a hub being forced to RTO.
It was also mentioned to begin prepping our employees for a full time (5 days) RTO.
The new lady in charge is all about metrics.
