Workload isn't divided fairly

I am overwhelmed with work more than ever. It is cheaper to overwork existing employees than to fill the vacant positions... On the other hand, some even brag that they only work the bare minimum or that they have never had less work to do. It seems that delegating work has become too complicated a task for our management?

Workload is entirely a function of what you do at Nike. There are some roles where you are perennially overworked and that never changes. There are other roles where people can sometimes have little or no work to do for extended periods of time. This is all managed at the local level. Which means it often isn’t managed at all.

I wish Nike would do what an increasing number of Fortune 500 companies are doing: at the corporate level requiring each employee to justify their roles annually by submitting a detailed accounting, signed-off by two levels of management, of precisely what they’ve worked on and accomplished in the prior 12 months. This is all managed by software and additional human analysis that pretty accurately helps identify dead weight. Applied Materials, for example, was able to identify about 5% of its employees who basically did nothing. Those employees had previously been able to hide this fact because their managers weren’t managing.

While this might sound like a sh*t show just waiting to happen most employees like the process. Despite what you might think, as long as the process is fair and impartial most people don’t actually mind some accountability beyond first-line management. It also helps lessen the chance of layoffs since the company is constantly and proactively getting rid of people who can’t quantitatively or qualitatively justify their roles. This will be the future as large companies continue to operate as efficiently as possible.

@2hba+1jBqt8Mb My group was NOT given that option. We were told to return as our roles were not considered part of the pilot. Not all roles were approved for the pilot and there was not choice.

@2hnh That’s not true. You were given the option of either fully remote or the hybrid model. And the pilot is not over. It’s up to the VPs on whether or not they want their org to be included. Ongoing process.

The pilot has been over for months. It's permanent now, whatever that means. And if it matters, I'm one of them...but I didnt apply, I was designated like many others.

I find my "remote pilot" counterparts posting pics from their daytime fun outings with their kids while I sit in the office and hustle. It's totally out of balance.

Can we wrap up the remote pilot already? Ridiculous. (Or, hey: Let's alternate who is remote.)
