Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

I'm about ready to walk away

With everything that's happened in the last few weeks and knowing that plenty more is coming, I'm about ready to throw in the towel. The only thing that's still keeping me here is the prospect of severance, which really says a lot about the current state of the company.

No idea how it makes sense to package off top tier CVE subsurface staff, only to replace them with people who don’t even have experience or expertise in this part of the basin! It’s mind boggling! It’s not like they cut CVE staff in their 50’s who had crazy salaries, it’s the other way around! They cut excellent, fully competent staff in their 30’s and 40’s and brought in people from HSE in their late 40’s and 50’s, some who are former managers from HSE! Makes zero sense other than the VP brought over his buddy club! F&D just went through the roof!

Sorry, it’s not a merged company, Cenovus acquired Husky. That’s why the company is still called Cenovus. Now it has Husky management floundering around trying to figure which way is up and what they’re supposed to be doing. They’re wasting time when we should be moving forward.

Wow "Post ID: @2oys+19cCCPup"! Do you know the quality of some of the Husky Leaders? They are good people and do a great job despite their higher ups. Why wouldn't a MERGED company want to keep good people from both Legacy companies? With an attitude like that you are not a team player and will not be open to working with Legacy Husky people. You will be next on the chopping block!

I wish all the Husky managers would opt to take the package and leave. Not wanted on the voyage. Why Cenovus managers got demoted and removed to be replaced by Husky management is a mind boggling puzzle.

What does “legacy” husky mean?

I have been told I’m ‘critical’ and have a role in finance, but I’m on 2nd round interviews at another opportunity. It’s out of control here. CLT will see very soon.

I was a Legacy Husky manager with 6 reports. On January 26th I was presented with the "opportunity" to take a demotion back into a technical role. I elected to take the package. Best choice ever. The package from Legacy Husky for long term employees is really really good.

Its a place to get a paycheck for another couple years at best... then Cenovus will have collapsed as well and if your name is still associated with Cenovus, everyone in town already knows you must be part of the useless ones.

Only the best employees were let go yet again

Listen up this is easy. If you want severance all you have to do is ask some tough but respectful questions of your managers or VPs and better yet in a townhall. Our mgmt hates being questioned, it’s why no one asks anything ever. So man up and ask them about the retention bonuses or employment so health with so many layoffs. Keep asking and you will be laid off. And no matter what you do you will never ever be fired for cause as long as it’s not illegal. They will always package you out to avoid potential legal issues.

That’s the best advice you will ever get.

And yes, this is just a place to get a pay check. If you think it’s more than that you are more of an id–t than our leaders.

I found an opportunity, so I quit. I agree with you all, this company has set itself up for total failure. We had a “team meeting” on Tuesday after the bloodbath, and the first thing I see on Teams is... these “leaders” smiling and engaging in small talk like nothing had happened.... I almost threw up. And then the fake discourse about decisions not taken lightly, blablabla... a disgrace. Double language taken to the ultimate level. That’s what Cenovus means to me now: a can of worms. A sh–hole. I’m out.

If you stop working as alluded to in previous comments you are putting yourself on the fired with cause chopping block. Which means no severance. Big bro is watching

Don't trust anyone and no loyalty to your company is new normal. I have been in business for the past 40 years. Only went to townhall meeting once !!! CEO usual tells you what u like to hear. Using "Potential" and "the people" like they really mean it. You go to work, and your boss pays you, that is pretty much it, Don't assume/expect your good work get you any where. That is expected. Good luck !

The downside of throwing people into the streets during a global pandemic is that employees have no trust in management . This trust will never come back. Employees will dread coming to work and will have anxiety every Tuesday . So much for LET's Talk an73d all of the virtue signaling that management cares about your mental health.

I work at Cenovus, and I've basically stopped working. Every project is stalled. I want a severance ASAP, so I hope they let me go. And my co-workers are all in the same place mentally. Everyone has basically stopped working. Even much of management is actively trying to stop projects. It's a mess, and I don't know how Cenovus/Husky moves past this. My manager and his manager know I want a severance, and that I'm angry and not working anymore.
