Thread regarding Ford layoffs

The best ones are leaving

People don’t leave the company, people leave their bosses.
How many times have you been convinced that managers here have a tendency to run away the good ones?

LMAO @2tek must not get out much and interact with LL6s.
Some divisions of Ford you wouldn’t use more than one hand to count the good LL6s.
The lazy incompetents you can kinda sorta understand. The mean-spirited incompetents are a different story.
Ford Credit IT is filled with bad LL6 and above. Ford ITO is also filled with bad LL6, that division is incompetent and rotten to the top.

I have met only one bad LL6 that I also served under. He did have good qualities though and you had to learn how to utilize them. He could be helpful in some instances. I later learned that his aggression was cultivated by a bad LL2 who thought "being aggressive" is a good leadership method. And so the LL2 had put immense stress on LL6's. If there were issues to escalate the LL6's already knew what the LL2 would say and so there wasn't much support for GSR's. The LL6 could be kind though, it was a half-and-half thing.

Just adding some perspective.

I have also seen less-qualified LL5's move up into executive assistant roles as well as GSR's into LL. These were often gals not guys and their "way up the ladder" was unusually quick. Not that I'm unable to look up to strong female leadership. But when it's biased I'm not on board.

Problem LL6s not being addressed is the norm at Ford.
One incompetent IT female LL6 literally fired 90% of her team three years in a row. She was incapable of delivering her project on time so each month she blamed one person and fired them. The 4th year the project was taken away from her and given to a tech spec LL6 who delivered the project in 6 months after scrapping everything the incompetent LL6 had done.
The incompetent LL6 was moved to an executive assistant role, keeping her LL6. HR was involved and flagged her as “should not have direct reports”. The LL6s husband was in leadership so she was protected from termination.
Fast forward four years and the incompetent LL6 was again allowed to supervise. You guessed it the same behaviors reappeared.

For first 15 years great bosses, then I got stuck under the boss from he-l.
Year 1 - under him 16 of 20 employees quit. He blocked the remaining 4 transfers claiming we were critical.
Year 2 - 3 Ford gsr transferred in 9 contractors and 3 purchased services were brought in. All of the Ford employees requested transfers, all but 2 contractors quit. HR and LL5 had meeting with the team and promised we would be allowed to transfer the following year.
Year 3 - two of the Ford employees were allowed to transfer (note these were the least skilled) The others were back-channeled blocked from moving (character assignation and whisper campaigns). More contractors brought in and quit
Year 4 - All but 2 Ford employees chose to retire or quit. HR and LL5 again promise the LL6 is being counseled and we will be allowed to transfer next year. More contractors brought in and quit.
Year 5 - Still only 2 Ford employees, new LL5 who claims the LL6 walks on water and is being held back by “sh---y staff” - direct quote. The word has gotten out and no contractors are applying for open positions. The LL5 flexes his muscles and force moves people under the LL6. HR involved again. More promises, More quits.
Year 6 - LL5 does a Reorg and combines 3 groups into 1 and places LL6 over the group. Another uproar, people requesting transfers, retiring, quitting. HR involved again but now are backing LL5 and LL6. GSRs just stop working in protest. More GSRs force transferred in, vicious cycle.
Year 7 - LL6 moved to another area. Everyone on the team breaths a sigh of relief. Within 3 months the same cycle started in the group the LL6 moved to and continues to this day.

Manager's that play favorites and sacrifice harding working people instead! What a sham. Let's hope the cuts that come will finally eliminate bad managers in the process! Let's reset the playing field!

I can certainly agree with the OP. There is a real bully that got promoted to LL4 when his best-friend got promoted to LL3. This LL4 has been responsible, directly, for several very good, highly-skilled workers leaving recently. These are the kind of employees upper-management is constantly saying that we want to retain, and this guy gets into meetings of dozens of people and berates everyone.

And the LL3 provides air cover for him. Truly sickening.
