Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford is working hard to reduce layoffs - by getting people to quit on their own

That’s the impression I’ve gotten recently. The work is increasing, the pay is staying the same, and the atmosphere is becoming unbearable. Basically, they're piling on the pressure, clearly hoping people will crack and simply walk away. It’s beyond wrong. It’s manipulative and completely unfair.

Son was offered a job by Ford last year after graduating. He chose not to accept. I told him to leave SE Michigan because sooner or later one of the BG3 will go and when that happens it will be a domino effect. I hate to say that but seen this growing up in a steel town similarities are shocking.

It's a guilt-based system. They give you this, but you pay for that. They get more than they give.

Official policy is 3 days a week, but my LLs wfh 100%. So does my group. Looks like this is called Hushed Hybrid.

What Is Hushed Hybrid?
As an increasing number of companies attempt to corral workforces back into the office with mandatory RTO policies, hushed hybrid refers to a practice where managers are quietly defying these measures by letting employees work from home, against company policy.

The phenomenon is taking place at a time when forced office returns are wildly unpopular, with almost half of workers admitting considering quitting before making a five-day office return. According to a survey by Owl, this widespread disdain has resulted in 70% of managers ignoring company-wide messaging in favor of greater flexibility.

Hushed hybrid follows a long list of similarly clandestine employment trends, with terms like quiet quitting, quiet resenteeism, and even quiet layoffs stirring up a buzz on social media in recent years. To understand the reality behind the viral term, I spoke to employees across the US to understand the trend from their perspective.

Ford flushed 10 billion down the BEV toilet. Who pays? The employees; cut good senior talent then overload the rest who are left. Hatchet and Fartley, Two biggest quacks ever to run Ford even worse than Jack the kn--e.

All they had to do was follow Toyota business model. But noooo, Billy and his saving the planet crusade got in the way.

I mean sure they can do the full rto mandate. But look at dell, their employees chose to stay working remote over accepting increase in salaries & promotions but they did not accept , in turn mass layoffs.. and now dell is rehiring the talent they got rid of at a higher wage after turning their company upside down. So, sure , bring the rto. The only ones who will be left are your poor performers

"..but months can pass by after the project is delivered, yet not implemented. So why beating us to deliver sooner that we could, if no one is going to do anything with it for a while longer?"

Oh how true this is. Cracking the whip while deadlines get kicked forward, but still demanding things be done way before. If you are thinking about coming to Ford for reliable employment, reconsider. If you are coming for a moderately lucrative and very temporary contract role go ahead. You must have a thick skin, but if you're a lifelong consultant you'll be used to this already. Just maintain your ability to fire THEM instead of the other way around because this is the best relationship when it comes to Ford. They don't seem to be interested in retaining longer tenured employees right now so your expectations of them should be low in terms of long term career fulfillment.

@OP. I agree. People are let go or quit on their own, and many positions are not backfilled, but the workload and responsibilities are still there, to be carried over by teammates. Then there are the nonsense deadlines. Managers push employees to deliver the project at the scheduled deadlines, citing urgency and requests from another teams, but months can pass by after the project is delivered, yet not implemented. So why beating us to deliver sooner that we could, if no one is going to do anything with it for a while longer?
