Management level layoffs?

I was among the many workers laid off last week. The layoff period runs through the 15th of December, doesn't it? I assume the higher ups will be getting it soon?

@2wgp+18jb79GH - the way things are headed at XOM, you will probably be hitching a ride on the highway in a few months. When the other dude gives you a ride, You can tell him all about how some good people were let go.

@1wst+18jb79GH As an employee that wasn’t let go, I will stop and ask you if you need a lift to the gas station when I see you carrying your gas can. Please be prepared to answer my question of “Why didn’t you stop back there, as I give you the look?” I lost some great teammates this week and didn’t lose some not so great ones.

I have a relative with 15+ years at EM who has been working on a project at the Beaumont refinery.
He was let go the other day as part of what’s said to be a 25% reduction in his engineering skill pool. Pay and medical only continued through March 2021.
Knowing what other majors offered at involuntary severance, e.g. 3 weeks per year of service at Shell, EM is being as insensitive and cheap as possible, especially in the midst of the pandemic.
EM is not an altruistic enterprise, of course, but long-tenured employees deserve better. When I’m next in my car and find myself running near “E” on the fuel gauge, I will certainly won’t be running to an EM station.
Voting with my wallet for my relative who deserved better. And I’ll spread the word to whomever will listen.

Managers and supervisors (mostly supervisors) were told on Monday before any "regular"
employee was told. I know of 3 supervisors who were cut and all 3 were in different organizations.

Everyday I learn of someone new who got cut and it is shocking.

Rumor is at least a 1,000 were cut in the involuntary program with over close to 900 retirements. The
sad thing is they don't tell you who is being cut and you have to find out the hard way...by calling someone
and getting a message or their email no longer works. (hush, hush...can't talk about who is gone... really
a shame)

I heard only managers who participated in recruiting over the past 5 years are in danger of being laid off. Can't figure out why.

Management needs to be treated like everyone else. Clean house.

It’s such a harmful philosophy not to train and grow those formal leadership roles. The same ranking system individual contributors are subject to should be spread out to management. This would ensure that leadership integrity is maintained. The forced reduction every year is bogus however. I support the idea to grow all and not replace based on rankings. The employee loyalty in return would be worth it.

But if gonna do it to IC’s then do it supervisors and up as well. The board should subject the ceo to it and the shareholders - the board.

I expect none of them to be fired - instead they might get a pat in the back for being such team players, reducing the most cost, and (on top of it) make themselves look charitable in LinkedIn.

They threw to the curb people from across the board, new hires to 20+ year experience folks; but there won’t be accountability. Managers and especially executives will go on unscathed. They will sink with the ship.

You must not have been at EM for long. Saying “assume” in a meeting is career s–c-de. Same as using the word hope when talking about when you will deliver.

Nope. They are all safe! After the workers are gone.. the weaker chiefs will have to take over the worker post now.. Woods great vision!

The Peter Principle observes that employees rise up through a firm's hierarchy through promotion until they reach a level of respective incompetence.
As a result, according to the Peter Principle, every position in a given hierarchy will eventually be filled by employees who are incompetent to fulfill the job duties of their respective positions.
A possible solution to the problem posed by the Peter Principle is for companies to provide adequate skill training for employees receiving a promotion, and to ensure the training is appropriate for the position to which they have been promoted.
