Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

The wrong approach to layoffs

Instead of laying off good, hardworking people, why doesn't BNY Mellon finally start getting rid of managers whose lousy work is rewarded with huge salaries? How many excellent employees, whose talent and knowledge this place desperately needs, could be kept here, if only some of the unnecessary managers were cut instead?

What kind of people downvote the best CEO that we’ve had in at least 23 years?

You make it sound like Charlie left and Robin picked right on up where he left off.

You’re forgetting about and diminishing Todd Gibbons, the great employee friendly CEO. Todd guided us through an unbelievably dangerous era with COVID, a shift to allow work at home, family friendly work arrangements ZERO layoffs. Todd was trusted and believed by the Street, stockholders, the employees, our customers and all stakeholders.

Todd Gibbons certainly ranks among our greatest CEOs. He stepped in and capped off a great career with baptism under fire. We were lucky to have him.

They just hired another Lune Robin Vince after Charlie the Joker wrecked havoc only to leave abruptly. Todd had decency. Did not hear one layoff in his presence. The day Robin took over, people with important roles are gone. Here is why. Goldman Made 21.6 Billion in 2021 whereas BNY Made 3.5. So they made 6 times us but now BNY has to pay Goldman execs 1.5 to 2x they made at Goldman. BNY as always got top heavy and Robin needs to make room for more of his cronies. CIO does not know iota about main street. She lives in her fantasy world. Robin can not make BNY profits go 1.5x or 2x just by being here. Robin is starting on the wrong foot but who does not. He will try and most likely will not be able to justify his or his Goldman cronies salaries. But he will do the damage before he leaves and it will be too late. He is laying off people to appease wall street and show good EPS as even with record high job openings the guys on top were paid in record high numbers.

They just got rid of one of the last good managers with a great grasp of our business today. I don't know who they think will take over, but I guess they just don't care.

They just got rid of several of these managers. Unfortunately good employees were also included in this round.

I repeat in this comment the same one I wrote for another thread because it’s even more relevant here:
I hop many overpaid and do-nothing executive managers, senior group managers, and managing directors get fired and their big $$$$ salaries partially saved and partially used to properly compensate and retain real hardworking employees. This would be more financially effective than saving peanuts $ by laying off hardworking US employees and outsourcing their jobs to Chennai and Pune. look up on mysource how many do-nothing “executive managers” and “senior group managers” are Based at Home doing close to nothing, perhaps except for posting and reacting on LinkedIn during work hours, while low paid and hourly employees are forced to RTO. Not sure if executive managers who aren’t classified as based at home are ever tracked to see how often they go to office when the are not traveling the US and the globe on the company’s dime! Aren’t we sick and tired of seeing executive managers posting pictures on mysource and LinkedIn about their useless and wasteful visits within the US and to UK, India, ….? They should start using Teams for video meetings just like the rest of us, instead of taking vacations disguised as t&e bank business!

You missed one very important aspect. Corporate managements are selfish. They only keep their inner circle.
