Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron’s recent hiring

Has anyone heard about being interviewed for the most recent hiring?? It has been roughly a month since I applied. Just curious how long it takes to hear back.

Chevron is probably the least stressful large company you will find. Conflict and tension is generally avoided at all cost. Policies are generous with low hours and Short work weeks. Management is easily duped. Enjoy it!

@5vnh, No, thanks, I'll give older as well as younger, less technical, stupidity–laden employees all the criticism that they deserve, gramps. Nothing naïve about me at all and I am well seasoned in the innerworkings of corporate policy. No one receives my respect who hasn't earned it, snoflake.

@3bmp, enjoy your good run in the company while you’re young and relatively naive about how present–day corporate America works. As you get older, you’ll realize more and more what many regard as stress and politics in the workplace. Good luck to you and don’t criticize your elders too much. They have experienced lots you haven’t seen yet.

You guys say that like it's the only business that produces stress and anxiety. Most of my colleagues who went into big tech jobs are ready to move to something else after less than a year from the stress. And I can see it's very true. They are impossible to deal with. You guys have no idea. Watch what you wish for! And from what I understand finance is even worse. So it's all relative.

You say you are younger. After about 40 years you will see the amount of stress and anxiety this industry will put you through with the constant reorganizations and ups and downs of oil prices. You have to decide whether the money is worth it. For me it was.

@2ysz, Speak your yourself and only for yourself and your narrow mindset. I am a younger EE and many of my coworkers are young and enjoying lucrative careers in the Oil & Gas industry and look forward to many years to come. I have also had many job offers from outside of O&G, based on my experience that I could easily switch to. I love my job and the opportunities it presents.
Green energy, conservation, efficiency improvements, renewables and new energy initiatives are also a major part of our focus. Maybe you are just in the wrong department and/or have the wrong attitude?

This industry is not a great place for young people. Stability is a very important aspect of professional employment. The energy industry can never supply that. The only people who should end up here are petroleum engineers because they cannot work anywhere else. Other forms of engineering (chemical, mechanical, electrical, civil, etc) are best to avoid this poor excuse of an industry.

If you were laid off from Chevron and had the audacity to apply for a job, don’t hold your breath, son! Chevron does not rehire laid off workers unless you’ve been gone for 3 years or more— and I mean rarely will you be rehired despite the break in previous service.

Only O&M positions take that long to offer up interviews. What type of position did you apply for?

Usually if you don’t hear something within 2 weeks, then it means you aren’t being considered for the position. That’s not just Chevron, that’s any job. All my recent interviews came within a week of applying. A month later, I was employed. Cut your losses and move on dude.
