Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

We are officially moving forward with on-site wind turbines in the European Union

The Flemish government granted the permit for the project to place three wind turbines on the site of the ExxonMobil Meerhout Polymers Plant and a turbine on the other side of the Albert Canal in Meerhout.

This is an important milestone for the realization of this sustainable project. The wind turbines will account for part of the polymer plant's energy consumption.

Sounds like the $720 million renewable diesel project at Strathcona in Canada.

Imperial Oil plans to use canola, soy, and/or sunflower oils in combination with hydrogen, produced from natural gas with carbon-sequestration facilities, to make its renewable diesel at its Strathcona Refinery near Edmonton. The facility will produce one billion liters of biofuel annually and would be the largest facility of this type in Canada. The project will support up to 600 construction jobs.

The project was announced on August 25, 2021. The total capital cost does not include third-party investments, such as hydrogen produced from the under-construction Air Products Hydrogen Production and Liquefaction Facility. Imperial approved the project for construction on January 26, 2023.

This is just a political move by the site to get capital committed to them. This is one of the many sites desperate to avoid closure. Misconception that a few million invested is a barrier to closure or sale.

Windmills without subsidies at the project level and also at the consumer level are rarely economically justifiable. Unless in a valley with consistent wind at just the right speed, false economics used in justification.

Offshore wind, with expensive insulation and upkeep with diesel boats has much worse economics.
