Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Start a soap opera, "All my Verizon".

It would be a real hit. The cr-p that goes on here is comical. How did Verizon fail so hard? Who is to blame? Will Verizon continue to just go through the motions and be satisfied with lackluster performance? Will Verizon continue to let TMUS and AT&T eat their lunch?

@3kgz+1jwtxOgd, too many Gen-Z-ers , and a fair amount of Millennials, think they’re smarter than their predecessors, and it’s only spotted as fallacy on those too-frequent occasions when they open their mouths.
It was the kids that crashed the globe in 2007-2008, ignoring their elders.
Who survived? The local town banks, led by the steadying hand of the siren-blowing gray-backs, people who knew a scam when they saw one and resisted greed and the lure of a fast, unearned payday via mortgages. The banks led by the kids ended up with nothing (unless they got bailed out).

“This would be a great show. A bunch of 45-55 year old boomers struggling to read email running a "technology" company” - @one

Hey Einstein, there are no 45-55 year old boomers. Those are all Gen X-ers.
Such ignorance youngblood.

Verizon Wireless was successful due to the exponential growth and acceptance of Wireless service by the the end user. The last few years have been when you must change the thought process and be more creative. Verizon was never the first at making decisions to pivot the business into new profitable areas. Most decisions made are id--tic, i.e., partnering with rural Wireless operators. I ask the question if they ever heard of Sprint and the debacle with all their affiliates. Was informed the Verizon partner are not the same but almost exactly the same. Take a look back several years and will easily see the downturn started with the $30B overpayment to acquire Vodafone's 45% ownership. And 5G is the biggest hoax ever and Verizon spent hundreds of millions to claim they launch 5G first. That is the biggest bs ever. When Verizon claimed to have launched 5G, the world governing body had not even agreed upon the 5G standards. So many more examples that allowed the executives the pat themselves on the back for something meaningless.

I suggest to start preparing your resume, maybe test the job market, but wait on the package.

Best of luck and when you start with a new company you will realize how toxic the environment really is at Verizon

Verizon started hiring diversity categories instead of talent. HR refuses to shortlist qualified candidates for interviews. Marketing is clinging onto that 'best network' slogan that customers don't seem to care about. And between no corporate training and constant turn over, nobody knows how to do anything.

And most importantly, businesses can claim people are equally productive from home, but that's a lie. However, they greenlit mass remote working when they agreed to the lockdowns, and the Fortune 1000 would have to unanimously agree to force workers back to the office, which won't happen as that's also the easiest way to attract talent with full remote.

THIS ALL STARTED BACK WHEN EMPLOYEES BECAME JUST NUMBERS OR SEAT FILLERS TO THE C-SUITE... THEY REPLACED EMPLOYEES WITH CONTRACTORS OR OUTSOURCING FIRMS (IE DON'T CARE ABOUT THE COMPANY)... THEY REPLACED GOOD EMPLOYEE IDEAS WITH BAD CONSULTANCY IDEAS... AND THEN CONTINUED TO TRADE QUALITY FOR PROFITS AS IT ALL BEGAN TO EMPLODE...

Finally, loyal, strong employees stopped fighting the good fights and left or remained silent, and all of those terrible, destructive c-suite ideas took down the company...

... or at least that's what happened to me.

It’s what happens when telecom tries to go tech and woke at the same time. It loses its sense of self and takes on all these burdensome social expectations now that it’s in the limelight.

A telephone company of any size worth working for will have a union to ensure pay and benefits solely based on title and tenure. It’s built into the contract.

It’s when you become secretive about salaries and have shady offer tactics with nonbargained positions that you need to have all these extra internal “representation / recognition” programs to save face in front of a diverse workforce.

Company drank its own Kool aid. Never believe your own hype, that's marketing for the customer. Company forgot to stay hungry. You see it everywhere from businesses to sports to musicians. Success breeds complacency.

They started elevating leaders based on saying the right things, talking a big game, and who they had relationships with. Sure there is some of that everywhere but the degree to which it happens and almost embraced here is a problem.

It took years of those mistakes and poor leaders being rewarded, but the rot that set in has finally caused structural issues, and the building is at risk if collapse.

One new CEO can't fix it now. The beams are rotten and we need a major fix. The question is who can execute it.

I feel like all the old dudes felt they were part of a great company. Now they feel like just another chump trying to get their time in. In other words, the thrill is gone.

Uncle Hermann, you are correct, a soap opera of "all my Verizon" would be great. The company is falling into the abyss. Or should I say has already fallin into the abyss.
