Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Promotion was passed over but got a 11,000$ raise. Choose Remote or Hybrid?

My manager tried to get me a promotion but Sr leadership said to wait. So he fought for a bigger raise for me this year instead. My impact was really high last year with all the work I did so he said it was easy to atleast get the raise. I have 5 days left to choose hybrid or remote.

You think I might be vulnerable to being let go if I choose remote over hybrid even if I have high impact?

Role : I-6.

The person posting 110k (me) is not op, just another i6 who got sc--wed on promo. I only got a 4% raise and a 5% modifier, so roughly 5k bonus. I know other i6's who are getting +125k base. We are in engineering which might be skewing it, but I've been told multiple times I'm way under the median.

Op you didn't say where you are located. Maybe you are in a low cost region. what country are you in?

It's possible that you are referencing 11,000 INR or RMB? But 110K USD as an i6 is not underpaid. Period. That is in the i7 salary band.

So tell me, based upon your 110k salary, how much bonus did you get this year?

"What's the deal with Dell promotions, huh? You're grinding away, climbing that corporate ladder one rung at a time, and finally, you see the light at the end of the tunnel – promotion time! But instead of a grand celebration, it's like they're playing a game of hide and seek with your career advancement. 'Hey, where did that promotion go? I swear I left it right here next to my stapler!' And then there's the announcement – 'Congratulations, you've been promoted... to the person who refills the office coffee machine!' It's like they're promoting you to a fancier title but with the same old responsibilities. 'Ah yes, now I'm officially the Chief Coffee Officer!' Thanks, Dell, for making us feel like we're climbing Mount Everest, only to realize we're just stuck in the break room!"

Sounds like you got a 10% from high 9x to 110k.
You were underpaid as an I6 hence the +10%

I would seek remote and take a chance on career growth elsewhere. you are not going to see a promo nor that type of increase again in a long while.

BS. Other i6's on my team get paid 10-30% more than me at 110k. Unless I'm being majorly gaslit, 110k is underpaid on i6

"11k is not 20% increase. I've been told I'm underpaid at 110k i6. "

I can state with certainty if you are making 110k as an i6 you are most definitely not under paid per your salary band. That your manager told you that should make you concerned.

11k is not 20% increase. I've been told I'm underpaid at 110k i6. So underpaid I have to swap teams or leave for a promo

It will go...

  1. Remote was to make people leave
  2. If they don't leave, they'll make it more uncomfortable
  3. If you are remote, you will get WFR'd

This has really nothing to do with RTO -- it has to do with getting down to 100K employees. The next 4 months are going to be, lots of upper management getting removed, org changes, etc, etc.

The reason why senior management told your manager you had to wait was because of the RTO mandate was coming.

The question you have to answer for yourself is do you want the promotion or not. If so then you have to go with Hybrid, if not then stay with remote.

Just my 2 cents worth.

"I6 band that 11K would be over 20%"
That would mean she was severely underpaid.

But I get your trying to put a spin on it and to cheer lead for dell.
Shake your p-m-poms

Congrats on securing such a large raise. Your manager really went to bat for you with leadership and HR. At an I6 band that 11K would be over 20% increase!

Agree with below. I suspect alot of hybrid will be expensive and near retirement age.
They will have to target them if they want to reduce costs

Remote 100%. If your promotion happens next year, switch to hybrid then if RTO is still dependant on it. If you are performing well, just keep that up, there's likely a few expensive dinosaurs on the team that will see WFO first (at a guess)

Remote. Don't give that up.
You are not that valuable should they be willing to lay you off for picking remote. Just let that sink in.
You can always convert to hybrid should that promo is really presented to you.
Otherwise you are falling for the proverbial carrot.

Nobody can really know the answer to this. It seems likely that Remote will be first on the layoff list, but that’s quite likely dependent on org.

Overall, if you’re interest in career growth, Dell isn’t the right place to be right now. Go Remote and find another job.
