Negotiating Salary for GDIA Tech

I just got an offer for a skill team called GDIA Tech. Heard of it?

I'm wondering what the going rate is in this department? Any insights?

@3ofv Starting off at entry level, no. I started off at $25k back in 1999. If you have over 10 years experience, yes.

GDIA is growing organization. Not yet successful in providing meaningful insights. Ford hired (and still hiring) whole bunch of Data Geeks who do not have any domain knowledge (Auto). Result– Tons of graphs/ charts with no insights and wasting every one's time. It will take some time for GDIA to get integrated and provide valuable contribution for the business. Right now, they are just the cost center, adding cost with no contribution. I am sure, it will improve over time. At this point, they do not deserve the billing rates they are getting...

The Union tradesman at ford all bring in well over 6 figures with overtime. As an entry engineer you put in overtime to make 75k and then get 2% yearly cost of living raises with no chance for promotion. The management class at ford gets huge bonuses and lease cars and 150k salaries.

LOL, I never looked at it like that but you’re right. Ford seems to think that working for them is such a privilege that you’ll be happy with any compensation. I admit that when I first started working for ford I was really excited to be there and was proud to say I worked for them. Unfortunately my attitude has soured a bit in recent years.

In my past couple jobs, one with Ford and the other being the largest retail employer in the country (hint), everyone seems to be underpaid.

I had 20 years experience on legacy systems and I was brought on for about $78k which is what I was making at my retail job.

I got the impression that working for Ford, and even the retail job, was a 'privilege.' For that 'privilege' you were underpaid.

(I joined Ford because I had to move back to Michigan to help care for an ailing parent. I was SRDd in May 2019 and had to leave Michigan again. One blessing, if you can call it that, of the corona virus is I am able to work remote from Michigan.)

My son graduated college a couple of years ago and would think he’d won the lottery if he landed an 85k job. That's not a bad salary for an inexperienced person. Don’t get me wrong, there are many negative things I could say about Ford but they do seem to take care of recent college grads. From experience with my son's job searches many companies post entry level positions that include a long list of required applied skills that no entry level person would have. The only thing “entry level” about those positions is the starting salary.

Fords cars sell for 50k or more and you think 70k is allot. Students are also graduating with huge debt in order to even qualify for a job at a big company.

When I was hired Ford would not negotiate but I don’t know if that’s still the case. They made an offer and it was “take it or leave it”. In recent years there have been complaints that many candidates are declining Ford offers for better offers elsewhere so that may have changed their attitude. They should have mentioned salary range before the interview process started to avoid going through the process only to discover their offer is unacceptable.

Starting salary at 70-85k is cra-ppy?

Clearly the Wealth-Divide in this country is getting worse...

Ford for recent grads pays pretty c-apy like 70-85k with a bachelor's in engineering or computer science
