Thread regarding Optum layoffs

IT Infrastructure job stability?

Can anyone comment on how stable jobs are for infrastructure folks? Server, storage, network, OS (Windows/Linux/etc), DBAs, etc?

Coming over from Change and still have no clue how the orgs work. Maybe one day we'll be able to meet and communicate with our future peers.

How's this for stability... Accenture and Wipro are replacing 66% of US based staff with India based staff.

@2yvx+1lzaKui7- thank you for speaking the truth. You are a rarity! Sadly most tech management only has one interest - bonuses. They all have their own agenda. The tops are clueless only interested in bottom line. True techs suffered in this org. They will rid off strong techs to prove their way is the only way..

@agc+1lzaKui7- for you to come into this forum to try to deceive innocent acquired CDO by telling lies. You must be one of the troll managed to rid off good/true techs.
Here’s the true test- side by side of asset inventory of all server/software footprint. Let see how many are EOL/EOS if you are even able to come up with up to date CMDB?
This org is a cesspool only interest in time to market, to the extent of unethical business practices that ki-l PTs. This is being investigated by the Congress. The acquisition of Change should not be approved but it did. As they said if you have “dirty” $$ politician can be bought.
Google OptumRX Congress you will find the letter sent by Congress to the CEO of OptumRX.
Furthermore, check the other posts in UHG layoff for more reality check.

Don’t listen to the troll out here .. organization is great and so the infra team. It has plethora of learning tools (Optum tech university is the best and they spend millions in training) . Every org has to move towards innovation and we as such are doing so, there would be change here and there but good performers are to stay and grow. Welcome!

Don't listen to this steaming pile of corporate dung. Optum University is a JOKE. I worked on trying to get this dinosaur of a company on AWS five years ago. Was met with incompetent, "we've always done it like this", yes-manning worthless management that did nothing than try to force their agenda down our throats. Wanted to migrate four apps to production in six months. I and another Lead Engineer told them it wasn't possible in such a short time. The other two leads had no idea what the architecture looked like. In the end, the two Indian managers saved themselves and blamed most of the contractor staff who were subsequently laid off.

This company is not high-tech, has no clue, and is toxic to the core. They lie to cover themselves and it's all about who you know and how you can leverage your relationships to survive failed projects. It has nothing to do with how good your are or your knowledge of the cloud. If you want to play toxic political games, by all means, stay here. If you're a serious engineer who wants to actually build good stuff for people to use, start looking for a new job today.

: @tel+1lzaKui7- how about having the top 7 give back their total comp of $75M to cover the fines? Take this to the newsroom and public. White collar crimes has been thrown in jail for less!!

Sadly- accountability does not exist from the top. The M&A model main goal is to save $$ whatever it takes!! 1. Acquired 2. RIF 3. Managed services/offshore to reduce cost 4. Clouds. This is how C level works to get but in from Board. In the meantime, their pockets filled with bonuses and stock options. Check out the other post on Congress investigating OptumRX. Google UHG layoff. Buckle up big fines are coming.. hence the layoff of 20% worldwide this week. The execs never have to pay any penalty it’s the workers!!

"Cloud migration is a mandate"

I mean, even if you could have your staff focus on this 100% of the time, it's still going to take decades to get the majority of your infrastructure to the cloud. Going to the cloud is not why an infrastructure person is going to lose their job anytime soon.
