Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

If Citi is so bad, why do so many employees leave and come?

I was told when I interviewed that many employees have left, and then returned. I have seen this first hand. Why are they coming back, if it's so bad here? Grass isn't always greener, I suppose.

Lots of people move between different banks and financial services companies. It seems to be nature of the game. Rarely are people staying 15+ years anywhere anymore by their own choice. I'm sure it depends on one's experience if it was meh people may come back for higher $$. If it was awful for them previously, I seriously doubt they'd do a do over.

Citi isn't so bad and take negative postings on this board with a grain of salt. 10 years and they have been good to me.

Citi pays decent and the culture isn't needlessly cutthroat. The idea of a working for a large corporation that really cares about you is a myth, unless you are in a revenue generating role and possess a desirable skill. Being a drone for a systemtically important FI may not be se-y, but it has its advantages. As along as executive don't fu-k up royally you're going to have a job and will get your paycheck every two weeks. Heck, even those working for a federal government can't say the same anymore.

Honestly, theve been great to me and I left due to being burnt out and constantly being looked over for promotions. I will be back next year, just waiting to get my bonus here next summer and im out.

@qnu+1ohuICUH, yeah right. They come back, and they stay. Maybe some leave again, but most have stayed. So much for your theory.

The only way to impactfully increase your salary is to jump periodically. So, it's a revolving door. They don't come back because they like Citi. They come back because Citi gave them a higher comp than their current and then they keep looking and jump ship next higher comp opportunity. If you haven't learned how to play this game by now, you're significantly behind.
