Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Do you really think the grass is much greener elsewhere?

Ford could be much better, but some really exaggerate their complaints. Other companies in the industry also have issues. Everything depends on one's priorities and there is definitely no ideal company, although the biggest complainers tend to idealize all other companies.

FWIW, I talk to ex a Ford coworkes every couple of weeks that are leaving for greener pastures. A couple more this week announced that they are leaving for other opportunities. I don't think layoffs are going to happen because Ford is hemorrhaging talent like crazy. I know their plan is to replace them in Mexico. Good luck with that.

@6ysh+1kEI6Hzj yep they called it putting you out to pasture back in the day. happened to me. happened to Lee I. also, if you read his book. so we are in good company. they didnt really fire him completely, they sent him and his secretary to some cr---y office on telegraph road to ride out to retirement. he nope'd out of there immediately. of course he had the cash to do so.

Left last year. Found a new job. Hair started growing back in and a rich dark brown instead of gray.

Fqfo- “ However, I noticed in the last couple of years, how my inbox tray has been drained of technical tasks, and replaced with silly ones”

You have been tagged for removal. It is one of their tactics to a) get you to voluntarily leave and b) to show you aren’t contributing anything of value so you can be placed on cull list.

Seen it happen over and over at Ford. Seems like you are aware that your number is up.

Yes! It is much greener! I left voluntarily left Ford early in 2021 and it has been great.

A little more money.
MUCH more respect!
Treated fairly.
Feel like I am actually contributing to the success of the company!

@4wey+1kEI6Hzj I agree. Management is like gardeners: they should cultivate and incentivize the talent of others, while removing the weeds. At FMC, it is no longer a garden, but a fu----g jungle. The weeds were promoted to management positions, making them stronger and allowing them to bring their friends and family.

There are less capable employees in the company now. Some were laid off, some left by their own. We are in a vicious cycle right now, and I don't think it will end well for anybody, excepting the competition. What Ford needs now is not a gardener, but an skillful surgeon, to remove the metastasized cancer. Instead, we have D-mb and D-mber at the helm, with the 15 stooges of the BoD backing them.

It seems 2023 will be my last year at FMC according to the rumor mill. I haven't left before because I am comfortable where I am. I get a nice paycheck for not doing much. That was not always the case. I got where I am because of all my hard work and knowledge. However, I noticed in the last couple of years, how my inbox tray has been drained of technical tasks, and replaced with silly ones. Yes, I can deliver those silly tasks in the weekly 40 hours. No need to study, or prepare myself, or work after hours anymore.

RTO could be a deal breaker for me. Why going back into the lion's den, in worse conditions than before? And coming back to the office will not spare me from the layoffs. So I started to look, and I have an interview next week. I am ready to leave Ford behind. Wish me luck!

IMHO it is not Ford employees that are toxic, it is the toxic environment due to mismanagement. It is a bad deal if the paycheck means constant stress that could have been avoided by better management. They blame every problem on the employees which is classic bad management.

I hope Ford executive management get "corrected" soon. The workers get punished for the missteps of the self-appointed smartest people in the room.

All companies have problems; what has clearly angered the majority at FMC is lack of a clear plan from senior leaders. The Ford+Plan reads like all the other so-called plans before it; we were a technology company, then a mobility company, now we're a data & subscription company. With all the ' talk ' of innovation and the ' design thinking ' bs, we still can't produce a quality vehicle that people want and makes money. Almost all the programs are behind, PXXX is a mess ( and that's our moneymaker!!!! ) and there is no accountability. Leaders are terminated for epic fails at other companies ( and somehow they end up at FMC! ) yet they get promoted at Ford and the poor workers that remain loyal are given a SIRP or whatevr u want to call it. When times were really rough, Mulally had a clear plan, everyone knew exactly what they had to do, there was no design think bs, no iterating, no back peddling and no hiding. Try getting a clear answer from JF on clear specific goals, wont happen. My guess is he's on a short leash, 2023 is gonna to be a bloodbath unless results happen and fast!

I’m thinking OP hasn’t worked a real job at other companies. Some are better than others. It just depends. Start looking outside of automotive.

All Ford engineering jobs lead to Mexico
All Ford software jobs lead to India

The US jobs are a CAFO soon to be emptied. The pastures are empty, salaried employees are all fattening up in the feedlot with predetermined dispatch dates. So yeah the grass is greener nearly everywhere else.

I think it really depends on what type of worker you are. Many OEM employees know their one specific task, they do it well for 20 years and make decent money.
On the other hand, If you're trying to have upward movement can likely come into ford and make the same as some of your colleagues with double your experience, but you won't see that grow as the same rate you can demand elsewhere.
