Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Best strategies to get laid off?

I am planning to leave after I find out if I get a bonus or not. Anyone have any good ways to get laid off? I would much rather get severance + unemployment than quit and get nothing...

I don't know what the best strategy is but make sure to leave your lunch in the fridge on your last day.

I did that once and upon my return to the bank over a year later it was still there. It did look more like a bonsai

If you have a good relationship with your manager, you could just be honest. I have a friend who adopted a baby a few years ago and was planning on quitting to be a stay at home mom - she went to her boss (knowing that layoffs were imminent) and asked to be laid off. She said if it would help someone else keep their job, she would volunteer to be in the group that got laid off since she would otherwise quit anyway. He was very nice and when the layoffs happened, she was one of the 3 who got let go and she got a nice severance with unemployment. And she probably saved someone his or her job.

I got laid off a couple of times with the bank and I can honestly say that really nothing that you do will either help you get laid off or prevent you from getting laid off. They usually do layoffs when downsizing or when the positions are being outsourced. They also remove people by roles, example your department can have sales, closers and underwriters and they won't lay off just some of them, they will get rid of all sales, then closers, then underwriters or just let them all go at the same time. You will literally walk in one day and be told not to log in and go to a meeting room, then they tell you the department is being closed effective immediately or which roles are being eliminated and after that give you your severance package, sometimes they have recruiters from areas that are hiring right there on the spot if you want to apply for any of those positions and by the time the meeting is done your access is already removed. So I would say like someone said before try to look for other roles that can be of more interest to you before trying to do something that might get you fired. Whatever you do it's not going to help you get laid off, that decision is made way up in the food chain and I don't even think they take in account the employee's metrics, it is all about money.

You do not want to be in a situation where you are fired instead of laid-off. If there is a much better opportunity and the fit is good with both the culture and the manager, take it while it is available.

Really difficult UNLESS your org is going through downsizing. If going through downsizing, all you need to do is ask your manager and manager's manager.

I've tried everything (slacking off, messing up, talking to HR and even asking my manager) to no avail. Apparently doing sub-par work, am still considered "too valuable". Meanwhle, I see colleagues get a package when they don't suck up to the boss, just to get rid of them. Will try that, but at this point, am thinking I will just walk on my own terms. If anyone figures out how to crack this nut, please share!!! What does it take??

I was worried about getting laid off for years. Now that I'm ready for a layoff I've tried many things to no avail. I might resort to the final option, asking my manager for a layoff. One thing is for certain, I won't be returning to the office. If no layoff than I will quit. I've grown my side hustle over the years and now its my plan A.
