@4xka+1pZ0M2Cn, I hear ya. No need for the anger against certain roles here.

there's alot of anger on here towards the wrong people. AE's/sales folks are the ones who keep everyone else in the business employed. You can do all the techy whiteboard stuff you want but without anyone to actually sell it then you're as well being an actual whiteboard, but that's actually what the business now seems to want, a bunch of faceless, talentless robots who can learn and subsequently parrot whatever sh---y messaging has been decided by folk who couldn't sell water to a drought.

The issue with AE's now is they're given so much sh-t to do that they're literally drowning under a mountain of it, mostly useless process but which needs to be ticked or else they're hauled over the coals. The amount of meaningless box ticking process which has been introduced and grown exponentially over the years, since the EMC 'acquisition' is mind bending. The 'POD Model' is also an absolutely laughable joke as half the folk aren't allowed to expense anything.

don't worry though, everything will be partner first and online soon enough. Nirvana.

The AE role has been somewhatbwatered down since covid struck.
Most of the meetings are now online through teams so they ISR,s are the first point of contact.
While im sure some AEs do have added value the majority know nothing about most customers and its the technical team that add value while on a lot less compensation.

You can’t have a $100B business without a sales team. Sales is about knowledge AND relationships. Yes, they entertain clients but they also have to (from my understanding and I could be wrong) track pipeline and trip reports in SFDC. It’s not just fancy dinners and drinks. And if they don’t sell, we get laid off so please support your sales teams and sales teams don’t disparage the folks in delivery, they’re the ones who have to fix things when customers are sold the wrong solution. We all play a part and we’re all relevant.

Spot on I am afraid most AE's know more about the latest comp change rather than the E&I they are supposed to have knowledge about...most of them and their RSD couldn't quote a 1U server in a basic R1 configuration..

It will include SVPs and VPs. Absolutely useless people at that level. Cut those by 3/4

Ha! People saying AEs are useless, please let me know about all the sales you close without someone who actually manages a customer relationship. It sure won't be done by tech goblins who have the social skills of cold toast. And no, I am not defending ALL AEs. I am talking real ones who are pushing solutions. Not pushing boxes.
