Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Will the market become even worse?

I'm desperate because I can't land anything outside of HP, and some say that the market could get even worse.

There are some less-than-bright HP lifers commenting here that all is well for HP, with plenty of job options, etc. These people are a joke and completely numb to the reality of what HP is devolving to. The company is well on its way to a slow death, and anyone who chooses to stay on is going down with the ship.

I jumped ship several years ago and I don’t regret it at all.

Hey @4zdm+1m7PEyMk you must be thinking of HPE not HPinc which this is the message board for. HPE is the software company that split off from HP. HPinc is the hardware side with the printers and PC's as well as other industrial products you have probably never heard of.

The commenter who said that IT is a small part of HP is a fool. HP is an IT company, and I think everyone should know that!

Everyone should be concerned with layoffs at HP. And if you're over 50, you're especially vulnerable. Don't think you're just "too valuable" to be WFR'd!

All depends on what you are looking for. Unlike most of the comments here that think HP only has IT workers, IT is a very small part of HP.

First, if your job can be done remotely, then look for remote jobs. Plenty of them out there in the $90K+ range.

If your job is manual labor like in the fabs, then your job search will be very limited. Same thing with working in the ink labs.

Engineering jobs are always in demand, so finding the right one for your experience and education won't be that hard.

What most people fail at when looking for a job is how to find jobs to apply for. If you are a salary employee, use a head hunter.

There seem to be a lot of jobs related to software and firmware but all employers are looking for that person with 10 years experience who is willing to work for 10 % below market rate.

Yes, you should be very concerned. The IT job market will only get tighter this year as more businesses continue with IT layoffs, just like HP is doing.
