When's the last time you tried to change anything here? To simplify a way something is done, make it more efficient? How did that work out for you? I've been hitting a wall for the last year or so, and I'm at the point where I'm ready to throw in the towel. What's with the aversion to even the smallest change?

Don’t rock the boat to tick off the SVP. They know that you know that you know they aren’t qualified for that chair they are sitting in. You better not speak up about a process that is rigged or come up with a better way to do something. IMMEDIATELY put on the “ problem” list and excluded by the SVP on meetings, updates, etc. D&I , the right restroom and the gift of gab is the criteria for the SVP role.
How do you define mid-level management? vp/director (band 4&5) is considered mid by bank definition
Reading comprehension must not be a strong suit for @7qhm+19INZr9k, we are clearly talking about mid level management not execs, thought if you’re in the right clique it’s not as rigorous as you make it out to me, it’s quite clear that many of the lower level managers are not good at what they manage, I can’t ask my boss anything complex because they got thrown into this role without knowing much but we’re great at cheerleading
Fair point...and assuming that person is not in a front office role as that would never fly. Too competitive. Closer you get to admin/back office role the more that probably happens. And as Bezos said, management manages (btw, thats a real skill set go to b school) and hire the subject matter experts (people smarter than them) to do the work. Often times managers work their way up from SME but that doesn’t alway have to be the case. There are other ways to the top (proven long track record of building productive teams etc) that are earned and not through politics. Poor bloke so jaded already?!
To the junior associate who feels comfortable assessing their management’s knowledge and judgement on who they promote come back after you go through the rigorous director/md promotions process. Not the cakewalk of the vp & below promos. you’re obviously not in the place to make assessments on your superiors...for various reasons. Wake up.
Same, expect if the idea is good they’ll steal it, take credit and still say you’re an issue
Been here long enough to see the politics and how they promote. It’s not based on what you know at all. They are trying to show how inclusive they are by hiring anybody, but the knowledge of those people that are being hired and slid into these roles is sub par at best. Very sad to see.
Things actually get worse when we bring up issues, like the SVP is vindictive
If you question things – even very obvious things like a misspelled word in a memo going out – you'll be told to just let it go. There's probably at least one thing a day that I'll notice could be done more efficiently that I just don't bother bringing up anymore. I just listen to execs talk about operational excellence and don't get involved.
In my department if you dare question what the wise ones in management do with a good idea, you are labeled as problematic
Have up years ago. Very rarely was anything done. Sometimes I have repeat my montra, " It's not my money, it's not my money.
Change rocks the boat, being a boat rocker only causes you more problems than it is worth at BofA. Push problems off on others and don’t let anybody give you any extra work. That’s the secret to success.
