Thread regarding IBM layoffs

GTS still hiring in the US

Would it be safe to pursue an opening (senior position) for GTS in the US at this point with so many layoffs and IBM splitting?

@8pbd+18jKnuMZ is not wrong- the goal is for GTS to move up stack and the advisory arm has been hiring. Of course it’s a pipe dream and they haven’t sold enough work for those people. GTS processes are not able to accommodate work that isn’t done entirely out of India, it’s even within their processes to justify when work is done without using India. GBS has this same process forcing people to use India instead of local staff.

Yes - huge refocus on advisory services and moving upstack in GTS - major wins and public cloud work already happening. We've double the size of our consulting business in the past year and plan to grow 5x before NewCo. While there is a lot of housecleaning, especially with product support dinosaurs, it happens in all major firms, particularly the up-or-out. We have the best team out there and are hiring. Don't believe the hype.

A hiring freeze in services I thought. Our team lost several and nothing back-filled.
IBM always list jobs on their site, but that don't mean anything.

Trust nobody ! Cut throats are going into mgrs and telling who should get cut and why . Had this happen to me in 2017 . My team leader was a mole , talked behind my back and I got the axe. 2+ Performer with awards and over 30 years . Look out for yourself !

If you like to spend 99% of your time filling out endless tickets, attending countless pointless required meetings, and constantly wondering "is today the day I get RAed." then sure take the job at GTS.

As long as revenues are flat or declining, and share price is same... no real safety there unless you are at a level that calls the shots, rather than taking them.

Of course that's true for any "job".

Also true for any business if your not in something bellweather, even if you are the owner or CEO.

It's all about the $$$ LOL!
