Thread regarding Ford layoffs

What happened to “canopy” that it can’t put a camera inside a van

Does anyone have the scoop on the failure of “canopy.” It went from all this listed in the 1/22 press release to being only “pickup bed camera.” Is it that hard to put a camera inside a van? Nobody keep valuable equipment unsecured in a pickup truck bed. I heard the pickup cam isn’t working right either.

Jan. 20, 2022 – Ford and ADT will invest in a new joint venture called Canopy, helping customers strengthen security of new and existing vehicles across automotive brands.

Canopy plans to launch industry-first, multi-sensor security systems early next year with the first products to be manufactured and sold in the U.S. and the U.K. – primarily for the industry’s highest-volume commercial and retail pickups and vans – including the Ford F-150, F-150 Lightning, Transit vans and E-Transit. The systems will be easily installable by customers to protect expensive work and recreational equipment.

@qagp had to be promo brought to you by the people of canopy 🤣🤣🤣
A real news producer would have used a speaker who wasn’t overeating and under exercising.

My coworker sent me this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgSG_Rnnr_I

Is this Canopy promo video or a real news story?

What's funny, thieves will steal the tools from the truck and no one will care. Just ask Home Depot, Lowe's, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. Go look at San Francisco, Chicago, New York, etc.

Has canopy been dissolved yet? I heard no part of it is working as advertised.

I ended up switching both houses and my two vehicles to Ring cameras. I get front and back coverage on both houses plus in-vehicle cameras.Much less expensive than ADT and much better coverage. Canopy will never be able to compete against Ring.

@9qiy+1pNovzn5 you are right that canopy will fade away, it already is. It is just being called Ford vehicle security systems these days, ADT is not monitoring anything. Nobody is marketing canopy other than some lame posts on X. CM and everyone else in this waste of money should be tops on the layoff list.

@9qiy
So you say FLV was the visionary and leader of canopy, not CM who is currently being paid a million a year to be the visionary and leader of canopy? CM is just filling in until we hire someone competent from Apple or Tesla?

Your point is from just as I have been saying in this forum. If you take away a project/program's visionary and leader, it will cause a lack of focus and it will eventually fade away.

Regardless of what you think of FLV, the truth of the matter is he was pulled from Ford Next and Canopy all too early to see it through and flourish. Blame the automotive media and its obsession with bringing him down.

I have ADT at my house and am planning to add my cottage up north, I called about that and while I was on the phone asked about Canopy for my truck, they didn’t know what I was talking about.

I saw an ADT commercial on TV last night.....why no mention of canopy?

It's like it doesn't even exist to them.

@ 1wlw+1pNovzn5 - yes he is the luckiest person, just look at how all the promotions came about. Right place, right time, no competition.

If there is no connection to ADT, what is the subscription fee for?

As a Ford shareholder, I want to see Canopy’s financial statements and the revenue projections the whole idea was based on, since there is no plan to be building 600,000 EVs annually at this point.

I wondered why ADT never published any press releases on this “partnership” apparently they were aware from the beginning it was a failure. CM should be #1 on Sterns layoff list, has accomplished nothing but spending money. And he did brag he makes a million per year.

@1khz apparently with all the billions of dollars they’ve spent developing “new businesses” they didn’t think of this before they made their grandiose announcement two years ago. So here we are, supporting a nonfunctional subscription service.

lol, Larry Flynt thinks putting putting a 7.7 MHz camcorder in the back of a Van is the same as modern integrated cameras.

It's not actually that easy to simply put a camera inside the vehicle as there are many potential risks of the high frequency data transmissions in the camera communicating to the central ECU and the other components on the interior. It's typically called HFIN: high frequency interference noise. Depending on the component in question, it can be super high or negligible. At my previous employer we had a similar design standard and I can only assume canopy is using a similar requirement to dictate where cameras can go. This can be more concerning with all the automated driving systems as well, so keep that in mind too!

@1gat if the “brains and force behind Canopy” was FLV, Ford would be better off using the $Billion annual expense at Somerset mall buying Hermes handbags for resale.

I blame it on the conspired/planned outsting of FLV from Ford Next by the media. He was the brains and force behind Canopy. If you abruptly remove its leader, it stands to reason the intent will lose focus.

Why can’t the trucks just use the bed / CHMSL camera? It’s already built in and the truck is connected…

Wouldn’t it be easier to just sell subscriptions to door locks that work to keep intruders out of your vehicles?

Somehow there is no ADT connection either. Major fail.
This was announced two years ago, cost over a billion in expense, and is going nowhere.
Too late to market, too many better positioned competitors, and too expensive.
