Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Stop whining!

Compare to DEC (Detail Engineering Companies) which don’t have pensions, and even no severance payments (except two weeks notice, but the IT guy will grab your computer immediately upon HR notice of the ax), EM guys here should just stop whining, take it or leave it!

Lucent – now that's a blast from the past. I remember being excited when Lucent spun off from its fat old codgy corporate parent who was in obvious decline in the 90s. Then it turned out the first tech bubble burst and the CEO at the time, McGinn, couldn't accept it and cooked the books. I lost a lot of money which never came back on Lucent shares.

In a short ten years, Lucent crashed from being the profitable sole-source AT&T R&D subsidiary to a failing independent company. Employees were shed by the thousands, dropping from 106,000 to fewer than 35,000. Over 70,000 American jobs disappeared from the company.

I found a lot of similarities between EM and Lucent. They think they are the best in their industry, look what had happened to Lucent.

Wake up! Pajama Boys & Girls!

We occassionally hire experienced engineers from "DEC" companies if they have very specific skill sets required at the time. However, it is usually very difficult as they usually don't have sufficient site experience, operations experience nor can they function in a high level PMT looking after management issues and communicating effectively. We grab the good ones when we can, but, the selection pool is usually limited. Naturally, the remuneration of an owner/operator is much better than a DEC, as it should be

@OP+189wnZPO, I complain or express my opinions in this place because in this place , and just relate to work, you and I are equal. In this place you can not run to your boss office and bend as a snitcher and tell him about my complains. In this place you can not touch me with your rumors. Indeed, like a contractors that they do not have any chance or benefits and they are treat like a lesser level from people like you. Yes contractors that by inexperience share knowledge with you and they had not the chance to be hired like you by the company. I complain or whining because I was hire by a company that according to them, one of their core value was honesty and clarity, in the way that they are working right now, I am sure they failed in may ways.

Guys just spit on OP and move on as he/she represents what our lowly supervisor, managers etc. are like. Just spit worthy! No point calling them leader as it is an insult to that word.

Your attitude is a serious issue OP and shows a huge lack of insight into human behavior and what it means to be a LEADER. You will never inspire the team by saying well you know at least you aren’t in the gulag. Management needs to win hearts and minds. As an example when I attended an employee forum and heard management saying the equivalent of let them eat cake (you are all overpaid but management is underpaid. I paid a consultant to design a benchmarking program to give me this answer and they did.) I was not inspired. When I go to meeting after meeting and hear no plan for how we will get back on top I am not inspired.

People don't complain here about being fired. They complain about incompetent leaders that are not fired.

Right the old race to the bottom argument. You have it better than the people living in mud huts with no running water or electricity so what is your problem!

Compare to NEEC (North Korean Engineering Companies)...

What’s your point? We didn’t accept a job with a DEC. We accepted a job with a company that made commitments such as “we hire you to retire you” and “we don’t do layoffs”
