Embrace them. Honeyhell has been a lousy place to work for a long time so leaving can't really put anybody in a much worse position. Especially if there's severance at play. Everybody I know who was laid off (except for one guy but he is one of the rare ones who were laid off with good reason) is already employed again and in a much better place than here. I'm now hoping it'll be my turn next.

I think being scare of layoffs is very normal depending on where you live. Perhaps in US where you have a population over 300 million people, there is need of all kinds of services, therefore there should be more opportunities. BUT, if you live in a small island, the opportunities are way more limited...I'vebeen struggling to find a job for 9 months now (since I was laid off back in June). There are bills to pay, and the severance (and savings) won't last forever. So, IT IS normal to be scare if you hear 'layoffs', 'RIFs'.

My severance package was presented to me today. Of course I expected a bit more, but I can live with it.
I will gladly leave this hole and put my knowledge to work somewhere where it'll be appreciated.
Let's hope (and I know they do) companies with vision, morals and respect still exist.
