Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

How is that even possible?

I've been reading this forum for a while now and I find it funny when someone says that his or her workload has grown so much that they are now doing work for three people. Someone even mentioned that they do work for as many as four people!!! I agree that workloads are bigger, but how is it even possible for someone to do a job for three or four people??? It’s obvious that people are exaggerating, or maybe they weren't doing anything before so now it seems to them that they are working for several people. Just sayin'.

You want your pay and bonus to be in descent?

Please tell me that you have not yet earned your G.E.D.

If you sleep 8 hours a day you have 112 hours per week available to work.
We were hired for 35 hours per week then they gradually dumped more work on us until we were working double that before officially upping it to 40.

If you are like the new joiners that I see, you are delusional. You have no clue about what really goes on. You go about your business thinking you are the best thing since sliced bread but in reality, you are missing the knowledge and skill to actually do a good job. The "old timers" are doing the real work, while watching you, wondering when you will realize you're in over your head and when you will leave to your next opportunity.

As relatively new joiner l work and produce more than 4 of my oldtimer teammates. Maybe it's because I am paid lots more, but it's neither my fault nor my care. I bet I would get a descent bonus too, and if I am not happy with the work, workload, or my manager, its sayonara, bnym. My manager knows that too. Stay marketable and put some effort, good things would happen. And if they don't.. Well.. It's just a job

OP… obviously you have not been in this situation. Are you in HR or Corporate Comm?

The answer, if you can handle it is 60-80 weeks, no personal life whosoever, no overtime for exempt employees and years to decades in his situation.

Count yourself as lucky… you have had a very relaxing career.

We lost half of our team and have yet to replace anyone, so yeah it's possible.

Over the course of about 3 years my team was reduced from a total of ten individuals to its current size of 6. We are receiving just as much workload as always, and although a portion of our regular duties was outsourced to the India team, they are only helping with our easiest tasks that are mostly finished quickly and don't cause logjams. My team leader and her supervisor both insist our team size now does not mean we are understaffed, even though I can see it with my own eyes (and my fellow team members agree) that our backlog of work is easily triple of what was normal just a few years ago.

So yeah Pal, it's totally possible.

It is possible and happens all the time. It is possible because all training opportunities go away, professional development such as mentoring goes away, developing deeper relationships with clients and an understanding of their business needs goes away, developing relationships with managers an colleagues goes away.

It becomes heads down constant work without breaks. It becomes impossible to keep up with emails and to communicate in a timely manner. It leads to rushed mistakes and degraded ability to perform at an acceptable level through no fault of the employees left holding the bag for those who left since there is no one else to perform the work.
