Even if you are a top performer, you'll receive no respect from anybody above you. I don't get it. It feels like they're trying to get rid of all the best employees intentionally. I'm not sure what that would achieve other than hurt the company but that certainly seems to be the goal.

@aiw+1heHPrTm There were GSR 9 and 10 when I started @ Ford. I think they were removed in the 1990s. GSR9 & 10 were converted to LL6. Then followed a push to get them out of Ford or make them take on management roles. As @kll said up-or-out. @kll appears to be talking about ITO. Many, but not all, of those roles require highly skilled senior technicians. Not to say Ford ITO has those skill sets now after SRD and other actions. Outsourcing ITO to Kyndryl/IBM is a likely outcome.

I do say though the LL3 isn't wrong. Feel free to downvote this post. But many PD jobs, particularly after the SRD, have been simplified to a degree where it's questionable if full-scale engineers are actually needed. I think in some areas we're more of an insurance requirement at this point. It's also easier to hire straight out of school for these positions. Ford just realized its not gonna survive amongst all the OEM's where we're headed with vehicles so now they "reinvent" the company. Too much pride to become part of VW just yet.
@OP I have sat in the management meetings (taking meeting minutes) so I can tell you their logic. In their minds they are the most important resources at Ford. People under them are to be exploited and are easily replaceable. A direct quote from an LL5 “I could replace the whole team with trained monkeys.” The LL5 made this comment and similar comments often. This LL5 is now a LL3. The LL5 was in IT operations and infrastructure when he made the comment. He is LL3 in the area now.
The era of valuing knowledge and skills ended when all the GSR bands above 8 were removed, and the UP or OUT mentality was instituted. Until the leadership is culled Ford culture will not change.
