Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Not all of us are hoping to be laid off

So many of my coworkers as well as those who post here are quick to say they're hoping we'll have layoffs so they can leave with severance. Can you please stop saying that? If you want to be laid off then go tell your manager that. Don't wish for layoffs that will leave many people who NEED this job without an income just so you could walk away with some money in your pocket. It's inconsiderate, selfish, and offensive.

@OP. Most of the people saying out loud that they want to be laid off, don't really want it. I have seen it in other companies. The big mouth guys almost cry when they get the pink slip. I believe that maybe is a psychological defense mechanism, where they voice their fears, or maybe, they want to look tough in front of the coworkers. IDK.

In my personal case, I am not afraid of layoffs. I'd prefer staying in the company, but I know that, sooner or later, I am a goner. Well, I am at this stage of my life where I could use some "paid vacations", maybe I'll go to Europe, so a severance/unemployment/COBRA package is welcome.

BTW, the fact that you are not hoping to be laid off doesn't mean you are not going to be laid off. I'd advise you to prepare financially and mentally for the possibility. Good luck!

We're all in different positions in our careers so yes, it's totally acceptable for someone late in their career, close to or eligible for retirement, to look forward to some sort of separation package with a lump sum benefit and continued medical care for a short period of time to help them make the decision when to get out. For those in that position that have seen it happen so so many times in the past, it's totally understandable because upper management has indicated several times this year we need to cut costs in a big way and that there will be necessary "people actions". And let's face it, this is a different company now with less focus on building quality vehicles and seemingly more focus on how employees "feel", DEI initiatives, etc. And just to note, if anyone is in the position to consider taking the lump sum pension option, talk to your financial advisor - with interest rates going up like they, the negative impact on your lump sum amount if you take it in 2022 vs. waiting until 2023 is huge. If you're considering getting out and taking the lump sum pension, do it in 2022.

Then don't come to a layoff board.
