Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Exitting the automotive industry

I don't like it at Ford anymore. I'm interested though how many of those who left here left the automotive industry altogether? Judging by my now former colleagues who left, more of them left the industry than went to one of the competing companies.

I left Ford in 2006 after 13 years. I was a LL6. I wanted to leave Ford and the automotive industry. Best decision I ever made. I have never had my 401k match eliminated like Ford did from January 2002 through June 2004. When Ford brought back the 401k match in July 2004, it was only at 3%. Prior to 2002, Ford used to match 6% in its 401k. That amount has never returned. For 10 consecutive years at my first energy company, I had a 7% 401k match, which made me a 401k millionaire. I also have a cash balance pension that grows by $800 monthly until retirement. I was also disappointed when Ford stopped matching gifts to charities. My current energy employer double matches my gifts to charities.

If you dont like it, you should leave. Don't stay if you don't want to be there

Laid off in August. Had two job offers, one with another OEM and another in the semi-conductor industry. Will start this Monday in the semi-conductor job. Did not want to go back to automotive after 22 years at Ford, and 28 total years in the industry. Looking forward to new challenges and fresh learnings.

@OP. I am still @Ford, but IDK for how long. I am expecting the pink slip any day. When that happens, I'll be leaving the automotive industry.
