Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Why so much negativity?

I can’t understand all the negativity against EM that I found in these posts.

Yes I know nepotism, brown-nosing, managerial incompetence, etc. are a problem, but it’s not an unique problem with EM. It’s all fckn corporate really.

Instead of complaining, think about the O&G professional that really truly suffer, the poor victims of oilfield service companies like Schlumberger, Halliburton, NexTier, Liberty.

I have been around long enough and experienced both sides, and I can tell you, I would always choose the worst day of employment with operators than the best day with BS OFS circuses.

In the charming words of HR explaining forced ranking, we are evaluating XOM on a relative, not absolute, scale.

It doesn’t matter how much you are paid or what your title is, everyone deserves the following:
to be treated and compensated fairly
to be told the truth
to be spoken to in a professional way
to be valued and respected
to be trusted to do the job
to feel safe
to be part of the team…

When the social contract is broken, they have every right to complain and move on.

OP, why are you wasting your time on a website where people actually can say what they think? You want positivity, go on LI to read the avalanche of brown nosing that “dedicated” EM employee post there. In a few more months, see their good-bye cube pick, when they find a more normal job with a more normal company.

What a bunch of boot lickers!
EM is now the record holder for the most toxic environment. Layoffs at the slightest downturn, that’s nothing to complain about. But when you’re in an upturn and the company still manufactures 5% pre-defined “low performers” and considers value to reside exclusively in sponsored parasites, you’re dealing with something else.

OP says it could be worse. I say it could be better.

Yes, I. Agree. Thank you for your comment.
I have experienced what you are saying on my own skin.
Working for an O&G operator in the USA is a privilege that they should cherish and be proud of.

They will stop bi-----g about ExxonMobil once they experience a real shizty job in technical sales for Liberty or Propetro or NexTier or Cudd....

@OP The short answer is that they have a lot of time sitting around and doing little/no work, so they think up things to complain about.

Personally, if I was was being paid what many of them claim to be for doing as little as many of them do, I wouldn’t be complaining.

Maybe if someone sat them down and explained that they aren’t employable at the same level outside of O&G they would tone it down some.

If people want to be miserable , let them. That’s their problem.

Yeah it isn't a gulag but it used to be so much better which is why people are upset. Pay and benefits were once top notch and now aren't. Expat opportunities are gone and even if you get one the financial benefit is gone. Basically therenused to be a lot of opportunity and reward and there no longer is. Better options elsewhere.

In a nutshell, people are are pi---d because in the recent past EM used to treat it's ordinary employees better than it does now, and it has gone relatively downhill over the last few years. The deal at EM used to be decent pay and relative job security in exchange for long hours and dealing with a high level of general hierarchical corporate BS. The security is gone for average staff, but the BS is the same or worse. Also pay is increasingly lagging, so people are leaving. Are there worse places to work than EM? There sure are. Does that fact make EM an objectively great place to work? No. It's fine for a lot of folks, but many can do better and vote with their feet every week.

Nothing has changed except the entitled, minimum expectations and effort crowd that has hired into the company the last 5 years.
