Thread regarding Ford layoffs

What a waste of money and energy!

Don't get me wrong - in no way do I justify the layoff of long-term employees but to some extent I can understand why they are a target, given that the ultimate goal is to cut costs as much as possible.

However, I hear that among the cut employees there are plenty of those who were hired not so long ago. What's the point of hiring people and firing them in just a few months? To me, it's just a huge waste of money and energy. Does anyone have insights on how many newbies are laid off?

@OP hope you are not the target of “cost cutting” when you are in the later years of your career. That would be awful, right?

They don't want American workers period, all the jobs will be picked up in Mexico. Engineering firms in Mexico for half the price.

@uvd+1ilfiXln - sounds like those team members, including you, were hired to be fired as mere pawns in the corporate game. It's very like you were were specifically hired to function as a sacrificial offset to enable mgmt/HR to release someone pension eligible (or at least protected from direct age discrimination). Sorry to hear it, but hopefully this will enable you to land in a better place to continue your career.

They create a chart by area showing old and young employees were let go providing some evidence age discrimination did not take place.

I guess they were not part of the good old boys network or shined their bosses boots well.

Guys if you get an interview with FORD be carful.
I worked for them before and to say the company is difunctional is an understatement.
Sounds like 2008. So what changed in 14 years nothing!
Ford needed management. That is the problem.

I know of several team members (including myself) that had less than 1 year, 6 months, or even 3 months of employment before being let go. How and why were these roles hired in the first place? Many lives have been impacted over Ford’s costly mistakes. Why did we fail to properly forecast the future before providing these team members with offers?
