Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

No Merit due to Upcoming Layoff

So, I learned I will get no merit this year, though I'm grateful I still get my bonus. No merit as I'm being laid off this spring. Does that seem right? Aren't merits a "reward" for last years performance? I'm so tired of the amount of rugs that have been pulled out from under me.

@gj+1jjtjyz83 - if you are not in a go-forward, enterprise location (if that’s what you mean by “hub”) - you will be impacted by location strategy.

If your departure is a foregone conclusion (I.e. you are not going to be offered relo, or won't take it and have said so) then as sad as it is, the manager is using the merit for people who will stay. You are already a lost cause to them - not by choice - but a lost cause. They have to turn their focus to those that will help carry the load going further.

The ones on this thread saying that you're going to be displaced for LS but got merit anyway- your management chain doesn't understand this and they'll suffer for it with those who remain.

Hardly anyone is being fired due to their location. If you are offered a relo, and refuse, ok, you were downsized for location. If they don't offer relo and/or deny a request to relo on your own dime, they are just downsizing you for giggles and LS is merely a handy legal-approved excuse. It's all horse S. The reality is that it's not about cost reduction, or locations, or anything else. Shart wants to purge this company and shape it into what he thinks a bank should be. Everyone that's been here longer than him is a target.

I got meets, a "high" meets. I got a bonus but no merit for the first time in decades . I was not told I will be let go, my boss said it was because of budget cuts, I am at the high end of the range, and because I am not in a hub. I suspect it's because I am going to be let go because of location strategy.

I’m getting laid off after Q1, non-hub, got a raise and an increase to my bonus. Rating - Meets.

I had a coworker who was promoted, who was laid off the same month as the promotion for location strategy.

The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. Your manager, his/her manager are operating BAU while others are determining who is being laid off and when.

No merit increase or even a promotion has zero bearing on whether or not you will be laid off any time soon.

It just depends on how your manager and those above them in your org have decided they want to allocate the merit budget this year. As someone else said, they may have determined it’s better to put it toward all of the employees they can keep, seeing as their workload is likely about to get bigger. Other managers/orgs might see it differently, hence the people saying they still got merit raises despite anticipating being displaced soon.

they will give you 0% merit as an easy excuse, so the management can give greater % out of their pool to people they favor

I was Meets (non hub) and got 0% merit - bonus was flat. Was told it was because of upcoming location strategy impacts even though I have been told I would have option to relocate. If I can relocate and stay with company, why should location impact my merit and make it 0%?

My thought is my job will be eliminated even though my manager is saying it won’t if I relocate.

The emotional rollercoaster of this place su-ks.

Your manager has prioritized keeping the remaining employees happy. Is it fair, no. Do they have that discretion, sort of. Sorry this happened to you.

Same (non hub and remote) - "Meets" this year and got 0% merit and 10% reduction in bonus from past 2 years. Was "Exceeds" 80% of my time at WF. Purposely sc--wed.
