Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Buyouts

I know the buyout is offered to all O&E grade 32 and below, so everyone from a call rep to a VP. Are they actually targeting call staff or the higher grade levels (professional staff and leadership)? Mike Baker made it sound like it was due to lower call volumes, which implies they are targeting call center staff (and direct call center support). Any insights?

Mike Baker and 2 levels under him orchestrated this to get to a savings dollar amount that they want. Claims and supporting teams like the benefit teams got this too, it isnt just call center. Workforce planning shows claims as UNDERSTAFFED right now so this isnt happening because the people are no longer needed. The work will still be there when the people are gone. This is all the SLT and ELT level bosses trying to book savings so their budgets look like they did a good job. SLT and ELT are think of Ryan Fulton, Bruce Thompson, Mike Baker, etc. This is also only in Mike Bakers hierarchy. That should tell you something. Of course they are all safe.

No they are blaming much lower than normal standard attrition across the board. Not sure what is really true but that is the talking point.

Colleagues, it’s called workforce planning. Workforce planning is here to anticipate the needs of the business so layoffs are NOT necessary. Decent workforce planning would have known that the pandemic was temporary and thus, beef up temporary staff and reduce when the coast is relatively clear. You maintain your temporary bench for the sole purpose of being able to flex up or down TO PRESERVE YOUR CORE STAFF. Not saying that workforce planning is precise, but it’s not this imprecise.

Same. I am still a DSNP Nav. And my panel is super small and I can make 60+ calls a day and either speak to 4-5 members, or people pick up and yell to stop calling them, or our phone number is flagged as spam and we can’t even call them. From a business standpoint I 100% get the buyout and potential layoffs. It still su-ks because people bills and cost of living doesn’t change when the needs of a business change. I get both sides. People upset and scared and the business need to do this.
