Thread regarding Optum layoffs

I despise this company

I have never in my life felt more contempt for an organization than I do for UHG. Their revenue comes from denying medical care and stealing from the federal government. Our CEO is like a Frankenstein-esque combination of Darth Vader and Mr. Burns. They treat their employees like s--- and outsource jobs to Indians who barely speak English and couldn't code their way out of a paper bag. UHG is basically a corporate sweatshop.

And let's not forget about the incompetent, soulless freaks who make up the executive team. You gotta love working under 12 layers of id--ts who spend their days not actually doing anything productive but sitting in meetings planning how to cut costs and squeeze more work out of their burned out employees. F this place.

@ah I’ve been with the organization for 10 years 4 and mostly 5’s on my evals and was laid off. Don’t assume sometimes they layoff high performers. Have some compassion because no job is secure. I thought this would never happen to me here I am.

To all those impacted, dont lose hope, getting another job may be difficult and will test you but its not impossible.
The rifs wont work in cutting costs because they are more or less random, driven by incompetent leaders who are all still here, rotating across roles based on relationships, not experience or performance.
This company has exceptionally poor leadership, over time, some seriously incompetent people have made their way too the top and they will always attract equally incompetent and mediocre leadership because like attracts like.
The same leadershop who tanked the stock by more than half in a few months cannot objectively help this company grow, all their decisions will be equally bad and will fail.

@a8 I been with this company for decades and watched it slowly sink into a shell of how things used to be. Your experience is suspiciously unusual at this point. Perhaps you have had positive experiences however most do not. No one has been promoted in my department in more than a decade. We have watched every bonus, benefit and employee welfare benefit be cut, great coworkers leave or be rif’d etc while those who remain given more work without merit increase or promotions. Either a bit or plant.

@OP, completely agree. My manager and skip-level leaders aren’t delivering any value—mostly re-orgs and layoffs—yet their paychecks keep getting bigger. The layoffs are being used to boost leadership bonuses that should have gone to the people who were let go.

@ah You'd do well as a citizen of North . How's it feel to have no dignity?

@a9 I agree 100%! Go work somewhere where you are happy! I’ve been with OPTUM for 10 years & have seen many folks rif’d. It’s like the GE Strategy of getting rid of the bottom 10% - they may be good, but rarely stellar. Work smart, stop badmouthing the hand that feeds you & maybe you’ll be here in 10 years! I love my job, love the benefits, love my projects & the teams I work with.

@ab you are free to not post here but here you are, with nothing else to do, no one who calls you or loves you probably either. Must be lonely

Yes, Your Majesty! No, Your Majesty!
Tell us how low to go, Your Majesty!
Make some more decrees, Your Majesty!
Don’t let us up off our knees, Your Majesty!
Give us a kick, if it please Your Majesty!
Give us a kick, if you would, Your Majesty!
Oh! That was good, Your Majesty!

@a8 UHG="rainbows and unicorns. Optum="He-l is colder than this place." PTSD from constantly looking over your shoulder wondering when the next Rif will happen and trying to talk your employees off the ledge because they're afraid of losing their jobs was constant for 1 1/2. Most that come to Optum didn't have a choice, they were acquired by UHG. So, it's great that you have had a wonderful experience, but for others it hasn't been a picnic at all.

Yeah I have worked at a lot of monolithic major companies, including WS banks, and this is the most opaque and insincere place I have ever been at. I haven’t even been here 4 months and the number of business level executives who have been replaced and projects canceled with no explanation is more than I saw at JOM or WF in a full year.

You are not wrong. This place is uniquely dysfunctional. I had never been at a company to cut retirement benefits or lay off an entire business team that supports the sales/growth side without telling anyone else involved.

You are free to leave if you hate it so much.

@OP My teammates from PH and India will not understand at all what you're saying. They experience working here a 180 difference from US workers. Most of them that have been here for years were not even aware of the wild amounts of huge layoffs - of excellent talent, not the scrubs - that have been happening since 2018. And the constant layoffs is just the tip of the iceburg of things they experience differently working for this place. So my guess is the replies saying "oh this company is terrific blahblahblah" are NOT US based.

People should either be true to themselves and leave their company if they hate it so much or be appreciative that they still have a job.

@OP
I disagree. I have worked for UHG for 8 years and have been promoted multiple times. UHG is a great company and is a very fair organization. I can only hope to retire with my company. If you feel this hatred for the company then be true to yourself and resign instead of trashing/ biting the hand that feeds you.
