Thread regarding Ford layoffs

All the new hires seem happy

It looks to me as if all the old-timers are unhappy at Ford and most of the people who joined recently seem perfectly content. I don't think it's them or the company, I think we have too many folks who are refusing to change with the times and are resenting the company for trying to expand its reach. My advice is to adapt or leave. Otherwise, you'll be unhappy here for good, since things are not going back to the way they were.

They are content for now. It took me 10 years to see the corruption and favouritism.

@2kzn+1kpqpAYB Because 30 years of fact checking them has shown that truth is not their strong suit. In recent years they have gotten way out of control. It use to be they just buffed and shined, now fabrication is commonplace.

2kzn+1kpqpAYB I can tell you need to change your choice of beverage from KOOL AID to stop smoking CRACK.
You speak of integrity and trust. I will tell you that Ford Senior Management do not have the trust of the troops nor do they have integrity.
Last year during the week of the initial bonus announcement we saw the true colors of that comedian of a CEO and his circus clowns for a team. In that one week they did more damage than Nasser ever did.
You talk about truth; Ok that Wednesday of that week Mr. Legend decided to tell Wall Street that he had too many people and that they were old and not trainable. Then fast forward to September of 22 Legend tells the world that Ford plans to hire 9k Mexican engineers. LIE #1.
LIE#2 If the older workers are not trainable does LEGEND fall under that classification? He claims to be a AUTOMOTIVE LEGEND in the same ranks of a LUTZ, Iacocca, Sperlich. Sorry Jimmy your list of accomplishments in this category are an "EMPTY SHELF". Your anthem "Nothing from Nothing is Nothing".
Then you try to claim to be a leader like Allan.. but nobody likes you. No body trust you . Quite simple you are like that NIEDAMEYER character in Animal House. btw he was shot by his own troops in Vietnam.
So you have the keys now.. WS or the Fee Press may give you a pass but the next 2-3 years the items you planed will come to fruit or fail. Given your past performance I would short the stock. Make some money ..

Clearly, you don’t understand the job of Public Relations. It is to SPIN and STRETCH the truth to make it appear we are better than we really are.

Why shouldn't one listen to the facts that Ford public relations speaks? Do you think they are lying? Why would they do that? They are the official word of the company and must adhere to ethical standards as outlined in the training you should have taken if you actually work for Ford.

They are happy because they believe the Ford PR machine and don’t have any experience with the BS that goes on here.

I remember being young, new to the company and overhearing old timers complaining about the company. I thought- I can’t wait until they leave to get the jaded blood out. Here I am less than 15 years later and I feel the way they do! When you are young, you think you will never be that way. Now I see it is inevitable at Ford.

Every FCG is happy the first two years at Ford, once they move to do real jobs and experience all the bureaucratic inefficiencies as well as see how those FCG with better mentors are promoted to LDP or receive awards just for showing up, those FCG's will look to leave Ford. At UNSE there were several young (<35 yrs old) talented engineers, after no more than 7 years in the company they moved to GM, Riviand, etc. Some of them presented their projects to the Henry Ford Technology Awards selection committee, some others were Planetary Gears Technical Experts, so on and so forth. Their managers instead of promoting them or given them new projects, they kept them doing clerical jobs because they were not part of the "chosen ones", they were pretty good but not even shining in the dark was good enough for them to be promoted. Instead, old farts took over as LL6's instead of choosing talented ones.
it is always the same, FCG's are happy to be at Ford, work hard but after 2 years you see their enthusiasm fading away.
It is still a good old boys network, the only way to get promoted is by having a degree from UofM with the right white boys fraternity association.
Those who complain about minorities being promoted are just venting their frustration on the wrong side. Look at all Divisions, UNSE, Engine, basically all divisions under Chuck Gray, look at Super CDS, the majority of chiefs, managers and spvrs are white boys. at UNSE those white boys have in common a degree from UofM.
To be promoted at Ford you need to show a cob up in your a$$

OP, the problem is that the company is not expanding its reach. It is narrowing its reach and flirting with becoming irrelevant.

@1ew Nah, The family wont let the company go bankrupt because they will lose their honey pot. Can you see lots of resumes with the Ford name flooding the Walmart super centers wanting to be greeters? More likely is if they see the ship sinking, they'll sell to a hedge fund or another car company. I'm sure that Tata motors or BMW would love to buy us for $4 a share. You better learn to speak Hindi or get used to wearing ledder hosen to work.

Ford will go out of business in few years. There is nothing to be happy about working here. Instead look for better companies and leave.

New hires are oblivious to the way Ford works. Older employees have changed and adapted over the years (contrar to your belief). The difference is, older employees have seen what works and what doesn't. You better hope these people don't leave, and leave all the younger employees to run the company.. it will be in bankruptcy soon! Older employees had strong opinions of right and wrong...young employees just want money and will do whatever is told to them. The young are puppets and if left alone will definitely ki-l this company.

@OP, you must be a youngster. Who do you think did all the work over the last 80-90 years to make this company an American icon? It sure the he-l wasnt young punks like you. We have seen all the nonsense many times over and can tell when a pig is covered in purls. One of these days, you will be the old person wearing black socks and sandals and thinking "ahhhh, now I get it. Those old timers were right all along".

Yes, the young workers are all happy. They see all of the folks losing their jobs 2 years before retirement and think "that'll never happen to me" .

I'm an old timer. I will admit that some of th my fellow oldies that are still here need to go. They complain about non-whites, have issues with women, can barely use a spreadsheet, resist change, and spend more time yapping than working.

OP is spot on here. Bringing on many of the top managers from the best tech companies outside of Ford has reinvigorated the leadership levels like hasn't been seen before. There is so much to accomplish for 2023 and only a week before we can begin. The new features we will have available in our products will overwhelm our customers and improve our value to the stockholders. I apologize for being positive about the company transformation with so much negativity here in this forum.

Okay Doug, I bet you are happy dragging in your 8 figure comp package with no real accomplishments to speak of. But they bought your snake oil so kudos to you. Between Jim and you Toyota’s job is more easy by the day.

Instead of being happy for wrong reasons the new hires should move to better managed companies in 2023. Your career is in your hands. Do not blame yourself later staying here.

@OP. IDK if you a troll, a Ford HR employee paid to write here, or just simply stupid. Young people do NOT know better, that why wisdom comes with age (sometimes). Young people have enough time in their lives to recover after making a mistake or wasting a few years. Older people not so much. There are even different investing strategies based on AGE alone.

Now, older Ford employees have enough experience with all the management "gimmicks", "flavors of the month" strategies and all those empty promises from the Ford family, to know we are being BS right now. Young people might have a twisted and dark future at Ford, but old employees will be done in the next couple of years.

It is easy to tell someone else, already older, facing ageism in the workforce, facing health issues, probably with pensions, to "leave". It is harder to do it. Your lack of empathy is just despicable. I just hope karma does exist and one day, you'll get EXACTLY what you are preaching to others.

Whoever wrote this is a fu----g id--t. These new hires have been through hiring freezes yet, or literally years of wondering if they will have a job because their teams keep getting reorg‘Ed and/or reduced.

Give it a few years and they will be just as she’ll scocked as the current old timers. Except they likely will not be, as they will not stick around long enough to find out - which is great for them but bad for Ford, because you enter up with a bunch of people they don’t know the full cycle of producing actual things, they only know their individual jobs - hence more reliance on suppliers and purchased services to do the important stuff. Ford will become basically a brand at that point, they might not even assemble the majority of their vehicles in 20 years and suppliers will take over factories. Wait and see - right now is the end of Ford as a true manufacturer of anything.
